Don't work a tech's job as an engineer, let someone else gather production data, while you do the analysis...

I couldn't exactly name demands as an intern, you can tell them in the interview what you want to do but the job offer comes as is.

You heard about the Engineer that up and quit to go work in Theater? His new job was to help the strippers put on their pasties. The pay wasn't much, but it was all he could afford anyway.

I'm currently working on my masters in mechanical engineering and I've done 4 internships. They suck. For one of mine I finished my project way early and they literally had me scanning boxes of old documents so they could be accessed electronically. All day long for weeks I scanned paper and renamed files. Just stick it out and it will be okay. My buddy has a masters in electrical engineering and he just got a job in marketing making way more money and he loves it. The degree will just open the door for you. Don't be afraid to apply for places far away.

As for your end question, I'd say look into DoD funded research. DARPA does some sick shit. For automotive stuff, join an SAE club. We have formula hybrid, clean snowmobile and micro Baja. Auto companies hire a lot of guys who are active in those clubs.

The military industrial complex is always hiring, if you can get a clearance. If you can get experience in some of the advanced analysis techniques, there is always work...

I kinda wanted to do something similar. I looked into UNC Charlotte. Good school, plus if you have the experience in late models you should be a good candidate. Charlotte would be a good place to be to get to know people. Good luck buddy!

My buddy (who's dad owns the shop) did an internship last summer in Charlotte. So he's got his foot in there. I'm wanting to go more of the offroad racing (ie.. Baja), Formula Drift, WRC direction, or ultimately F1 direction. but Charlotte would be a good place to look. Close to home as well.

Ya, I heard. Did you see Zeeco there? We had a couple of our recruiters there for it. Will be there tomorrow for interviews.

F1 would be awesome. Sorry I just assumed NASCAR hearing late models. I'm originally from KY and I too got to tinker around with them. Not a whole lot out this way in KS. At least compared to back home.

No, you're fine! lol. I'll work on anything involved with racing. Just so happens my buddy's dad races and builds late models so that's what I've gotten my hands into so far. lmao

I used to track race some and did a drift competition once so I've gotten my fair share of all of it.

Computer Engineering. Graduating in December from Auburn University. Have a job lined up at a company that specializes in radars but they get a lot of DoD contracts outside of radars as well. Interned there this summer and was mostly writing code but also got to do some hands on electrical hardware stuff. Hoping to get more into the hardware side of things in the future.
