As long at your program is ABET accredited and you pass your FE you shouldn't have a problem with this. ME's seem to be butt hurt that MET's don't have to take cal 3 and differential equations to do similar work.

Now he does have a point with big companies. I have my MET degree and I work for a large global company. My manager insists that I be labeled a Technologists, but my pay scale within the company has me labeled as an engineer. And I make the same as the "engineers". They even bill me out as an engineer. I do all the same work. It's just political butt hurt BS.

At the end of the day your knowledge and work ethic can supersede your job title.

Right im not against ABET MET degrees at all. But that political BS can be a huge obstacle to overcome. Not to mention that to those who dont understand ABET accredited MET degrees will lump you in with "engineering technology" degrees from places like ITT tech. There is a lot of stigma surrounding the MET degree.

i think the only obstacle is that first job. If you had a good internship, i think most employers would look beyond that. now that im involved in hiring, i just want to know what youve done, and how you can help me. I would say that my bsme probably helped me get that first internship way back when.

I'm graduating very soon with an MET degree. Finding a job was so easy, I had my choices without looking far at all. Once I graduate I'm going to be working as a Manufacturing Design Engineer.

Took me 4 years, with some transfer credits from HS. I have the exact same work ethic lol. I'm a workaholic unless you count school, then I'm a slacker. :)

It's all in the internship. If you can get in with a good company as an intern and can show you actually did engineering work then that goes a long way into finding a "real" job.

Registered Civil and Structural engineer in California. I'm a adjunct professor at a local college and working on the LAX terminals expansions. Terminal 1 is almost complete and helping out in Terminal1.5 and mainly working on the Midfield Sattelite Concourse at LAX. I'm also working on other terminals. Trying to make LA a better place.

Mechanical here; I guess it makes sense for there to be a bunch of engineers on a site dedicated to wrenching, improving, and modding an expensive piece of machinery.

I've got a question for the PE discussion: I don't work closely with any PEs (undermanned department), but the requirement for applying is tutelage under a PE as well as 3 PE references.
Is there a way you know of to circumvent that or fulfill that requirement without PE coworkers? (Other than the 30 years experience or however long exemption...)

I'm in NC, I know the states have different rules here and there.
I've been working as an engineer for 6 years as an amateur engineer lol, ready to be a professional for resumée improvement.

From what I've seen in California. You need at least one that works in the same company to sign off for you. The other two can be outside the company that have seen and can approve you/recommend to take the test.

Split the civil and environmental categories up. They definitely aren't the same thing...

I received my B.S. in Aerospace Engineering with an emphasis on astronautics (rockets are cool) and now work as a MP&P Engineer for big ol' Boeing. My job title doesn't really cover the breadth of work that I come across, I'm very fortunate to be on the R&D side of manufacturing a new airplane.

I'll second what a few others have said on here for those still in school: Get an internship. Also, you'd be surprised how many people like seeing automotive or motorcycle on a resume from a kid fresh out of college.

What do you mean what do I mean? I was just curious as to why those two disciplines were chosen to share a category, when many disciplines have plenty of crossover.

The civil and environmental programs are usually tied together at the college level, so it seems logical. I agree they are totally separate fields.

I am a civil engineer working mainly on sound transit light rail projects. Been doing that for almost 8 years.

Gotch. CA doesnt recognize Environmental Engineers they're considered civil. So are a lot of other engineering discipline. I've heard they might actually reopen environmental sometime in the future though.
