I recently did the 5100 Bilstein front and rear .25 inch driver side spacer 888 OME springs and a deaver AAL. I’m very happy with the outcome and overall look upgrade I got from it. Sometimes though when riding on normal highway and roads man you can really really feel the ass end when it rolls over something other than smooth pavement. I mean it really jars the hell out of the backend and honestly feels like it’s lighter on the wheels in the rear than it should be. I’m also running factory tires 265 65 17 size wise but I did put toyo open country AT2s on it. I didn’t even think about possibly getting bigger tires with my lift being the noob I am. Would a bump stop improve this or what is something I could do to improve this without getting a whole new leaf set. Preferably under $200. Thanks

Bump stops prevent your shock from bottoming out or potentially collapsing to the point of failure. Some more expensive ones provide more cushion than others, but they are not designed to absorb shock like shocks are.

If you do get them have your front wheels off the ground and lube the snot out of the fronts with WD-40 to soak the threads and use a pipe wrench to get them loose. The new ones bolt right in

Bump stops aren't going to solve your problem. If your experiencing a stiff ride on pavement after installing a lift, it's because the AAL and shock combo has simply stiffened up the ride and you're either not used to it yet or the combo was designed to carry a constant load and it's just too stiff for your application. Is the AAL you installed a single leaf? Those have a much stiffer ride than a progressive/multi-leaf AAL will.

Unless you're hauling a significant amount of weight that would cause your rear end to be bottoming out on the highway, new and/or better bump stops will do nothing.

Bump stops are for people who don't run Bilstein 8112's...

OP is experiencing a stiff ride in his rear end on pavement after an AAL lift. Better bump stops will not fix that. And while air bump stops are designed to provide more cushion should they be needed, they are not designed to absorb constant shock like actual shocks are.

:thumbsup::thumbsup: but with my factory leaf springs and 300lbs in the back. Mine would bottom out on the bump stops.

thats with the 4 leaf pack for 2nd gen

This is tru, plus after a month the suspension should settle. Valving of digressive vs progressive shocks makes more stiffness too

I have noticed that when I have something in the bed with a little bit of weight to it the truck seems to ride much much better

Haha, that's the truth! My 09 with the recall leafs squatted more than it did with my original 3 leaf pack on. Before I put the wheeler's 3-leaf AAL in, it would hit the bump stops if I hit a strong head wind.

A lot of us AZ folks got to be part of the testing and evaluation. I removed my Wheelers bumps and installed Durobumps and I love them. They're designed and manufactured by a Toyota driver and forum member @Plastics Guy. My front end was getting airborne during testing and if it wasn't for the picture proof I wouldn't have known. Takes the jolt out of bottoming out.
