What exactly is invoice?

I got a price from a dealer on a 2017 SR AC 4x4 manual. MSRP $27,274. Selling price is $25,565 or $500 below invoice they told me. It's got the convenience pkg and all weather floor liners and sill protectors. if I add these up from the master list here and add $940 destination charge I'm at $25,548 invoice. I wonder how they are claiming it's $500 under invoice.

 

If you added it up and came up with a different number then they are obviously not being honest with you.

 

I came across that same problem as I'm looking to purchase and realized that it's most likely a TDA Fee added in the cost as well that eats into that -$500 invoice. It's usually in the $600 from what I've seen so it brings you back to invoice.

 

Gotta agree with shakerhood, they're trying to bake the most money they can. Same thing hearkened to me but it was a $2,000 more than they originally told me, so I said no thanks I'll go somewhere else, which quickly changed their minds. Stick to your guns

 

Yea, something is not right here. Either there is some other option it has or they are just lying to you.

 

The dealer should be able to give you a breakdown of their pricing. Depending on what region you are there may be additional port options or higher delivery fees

 

They are being 100% honest with you. Dealer invoice is $26,065 on that truck. That is a very, very, very good deal.

 

Ask them directly. Some Dealers dont disclose the TDA fee off the bat unless you ask directly or until they actually give you the pricing sheet break down or just give a price OTD that equals the invoice - $500 so that it negates any hidden fees.

I believe he said he added it up using that Master List in the first post and those numbers did not match with what the Dealer was saying, still sounds like they are trying to rip him out of a few bucks.

 

I feel the same but the few dealers I've talked to haven't budged from removing it.

 

These are the numbers for the truck, First number is msrp, second is invoice. They are not lying and they are including the TDA in the invoice pricing.

Invoice price, as quoted places like Edmonds.com, is usually the price the dealer paid + holdback and sometimes a MSRP reserve. Edmunds lists the TDA separately depending on region.

The marketing fees, although they sound like bullshit, are typical and from my experience and unavoidable.

Remember, the dealer is always guaranteed profit via holdback. You should always try to negotiate a deal that eats into their holdback a little

MSRP is SUGGESTED manufacturers suggested selling price, but not necessarily selling price. There is profit/overhead built into there.

 

If invoice was the price the dealer actually paid, Toyota wouldn't let those numbers go public.

 

This dude knows what he's talking about you should listen to him.

And yes..bs like gas charges, TDA and floormats are included in the invoice price but don't show up on the master list or edmunds or true car.

And no one gets out of paying the TDA unless your a corporate employee. I've ordered toyotas from dealers that weren't on the lot any longer than it took to wash and gas them, and still had to include TDA.
The best you can do is ask for enough of a discount below invoice to offset it if they aren't already going below it.
