Newbie question: Combined with a CAI will an aftermarket pipe increase gas mileage or just cabin noise?

 

Sounds great! Do you have the part number for the muffler?

 

I have the TRD off-road exhaust in mine. It's a little quieter than the TRD PRO one that comes on the PRO.

 

Just increases cabin noise.

 

You won't have any benefit of CAI since your cross sectional area of throttle body is the same. The only benefit would come from increased surface area on the filter decreasing pressure drop.

 

Away from the paper work but it's a flowmaster super 44 2.5" center inlet/outlet.

The trd offroad comes with same oem exhaust as the sport, and base model.

 

Fair nuff, ive seen people post about their trd exhausted stock trucks is all. Ya never know.

 

Yeah, some dealers throw those on with the grilles with a nice markup. But mine is stock

 

I'm leaning towards the Magnaflow for my 2017 OR. Do you think this would be super droney/loud in the truck bed with a camper shell? I have the bed and cap carpeted which might cut down on some of the noise but don't want my dog going deaf on longer trips...not that he listens to me anyway

 

Can always put in a resonator. Will quite it down and kill the drone.

On another note...
Got in almost all my remaining parts for my exhaust today... Still waiting on the Vibrant flex coupler to arrive.



Taking some of the parts tomorrow to get TIG welded. Cutting off the y-pipe flange, and welding in a short reducer (enlarger), and in turn welding it to the v-band. 3" from the v-band to the tip.

 

I spent a lot of time searching for a good muffler and honestly couldn't find anything that sounded good enough, until I saw a video on instagram of this Tacoma drift car that was running the 250 Venom by Black widow exhaust, I was blown away! next thing I know is that there was a box waiting for me in the living room, took the truck to a muffler shop and threw the old Flowmaster in the can. never looked back, the problem with most of the mufflers I heard and tried was that they had a lot of drone and little tone that you can hear. I say check them out before making any decisions.

I know for a fact that this muffler sounds crazy good on the 4.0L, but dont know about the 3.5L, try and report back

Yeah, shouldn't be a issue. Not sure about cost. Resonators are only about $50 - $100 typically, depending on length and type. And then you'd probably want a shop to weld it in after the muffler/Y-pipe flange connection... So whatever it cost to do that.

 

CAI - hp gains all depend upon how good the OEM design is in the first place.

Some will, some won't. Blanket statements need not apply.

 

I bought a Flowmaster 40 series for my old tacoma for $80 and had a muffler shop cut out the stock one and install this one. It sounded deep and throaty, not ricey. Loved it, will likely do the same with my current rig.
