Shit y'all what's with all the trolling?

I checked out Beta Theta Pi an Sigma Nu when I was an undergrad. Went to their parties and stuff and the whole experienced left me underwhelmed, so I didn't join.

But if this guys (and galls) want to join up, I say let them. It's their money and their time!

Don't like Frat's/Sororoties? Don't join! Make your comment and move on!

Or better yet, start the "Why I didn't join/hate Frats"

    End of rant.

    Not really a fraternity
Beta Gamma Sigma - Business Honor Society

I tried joining Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity but they wouldn't have me. I was much older and didn't want to put up the juvenile crap. It seemed like a bunch of kids trying to play grown-up.

Joining my fraternity was one of the best choices I ever made. Many people complain about the partying and the stereotypical fraternities shown in the media and for my first 1.5 years of college I was highly against joining one, but after my sophomore year I pledged and very glad I did as especially now as a graduate student here. I get to meet a lot of younger students on campus, its easier to stay involved on campus instead of getting caught up in my research and work and after most of my friends here graduated and left, I still have a large group of friends that I can have fun with before I move on again and get a real job.

To me at least its a brotherhood that I joined, a bunch of really close friends that I know and have seen will stay friends long beyond college who despite how well you know them, will usually go out of their way to help you out in any situation. On top of that we do have fun, and they offer many connections as well as many opportunities to grow in terms of leadership. One thing I noticed while I was on my co-op's and internships (and for those people who complain about leveraging connections to get internships, I obtained my first co-op prior to rushing and pledging my fraternity and pledged before leaving/while on co-op) that all of my bosses had been in a Fraternity of some sort, and actually while in SC on my second co-op met over 5 brothers from other chapters around the country who are all part of my fraternity (bother graduate brothers who were full time employees and other interns).

Just an example of how we help each other out. A year later, one of these brothers that I had met, contacted me letting me know he had gotten a internship close to my campus and was wondering if he could stay at our house until he found an apartment.

Additionally going to an engineering school we don't have many girls (1:3 ratio) and we do party and have our good times, I don't think anyone here joins primarily for the partying, but rather for the brother hood. On our campus of 5000 or so undergrads we have 30 odd fraternities and sororities, its a big part of campus life here.

Just another take on fraternity life from a now graduate brother.

Not in a fraternity, never wanted to join one either.

I'm not wholly against fraternities themselves, but the overwhelming majority of interactions I've had with fraternity members in class left me with a very low opinion of them.

Notice I said "overwhelming majority". Not all. Some frat guys I know are very smart and decent guys.

Join for the party stay for the brotherhood. I'm not even an official member but they still treat me like one. I've always got a bed when I'm in the Charleston area or just a place to hang out and get a shower after being on the beach.
What he ^ said. You don't pay for your friends just pay dues like any other club to help pay for philanthropy events, formals, house upkeep, etc.

Sigma Alpha Mu, a nationally jewish fraternity, but my chapter was nothing like the norm. Ours was a majority of non-jewish with a touch of hindu and black...one of the better mistakes of my life joining. Wasn't like a normal fraternity.
