@crashnburn80 did a great write-up like 8 years ago and the thread is still going strong - Brake Upgrade: StopTech Rotors + TRD Performance Pads

I plan on following it when my current breaks wear out (yes, it applies to 3rd gen as well).

    In short:
StopTech sport slotted cryo rotor right: 126.44129CSR (non-cryo is SR)
StopTechsport slotted cryorotor left: 126.44129CSL (non-cryo is SL)
TRD performance Tacoma brake pads 2005-current: PTR09-89111 (these fit 3rd Gen, despite Toyota's parts catalog saying they don't. See post #554)
Wheelers front brake lines 05+ Tacoma: BLINE-06XSM
Wheelers rear brake lines +2" 05+ Tacoma: BLINE-08XSM

Total Cost (at the time): $320

Interesting to see so many people saying positive things about power stio. I ordered there kits for 2 other vehicles a few years back, followed the process exactly and got 12k miles out of the pads on my silverado and about 25k on my trailblazer. I'd had both vehicles long enough to know that I could get 60k from a set of basic pads from oreillys.

isn't there a 4runner big brake rotor upgrade as well?

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
I had one front friction pad come loose from the baking plate at 35K miles. Metal on metal, replacement rotors were not an option.

I went to O'Reilly's, asked the counter guy for a set of rotors and pads for a 2021 tacoma.
They were in stock, and the guy gave me a "good customer/ senior citizen/ vet/ " discount.

Came home and put them on. They work just fine.

They came in boxes, I didn't notice the brand.

I went with powerstops, Rock Auto sold a kit with their geomet coated rotors and z17 pads for like $115 bucks (is what I got them for) and seem to be really good. They came with new pins, hardware, and a little pouch of grease which I thought was nice. I don't tow or haul enough but when I do these would still be more than sufficient. Their drilled and slotted ones are cool too, maybe better suited for someone who exclusively tows and hauls, but you'll probably also burn through pads like there's no tomorrow. I think those also didn't come with the Geomet coating which really helps since I live in the rust belt. You can't go wrong with Powerstop, Bosch, Brembo, and hell even OEM if you can get those for the same price under the advics brand.

Sidenote: When my rears need replacing, I may go with their rear kit, it seems decent. Anyone have experience with it?

Unless I find something I can't live without somewhere else I just use my shop account at Oreillys, its easily 30% off anything behind the counter.

On my 4Runner, I went Power stop slotted rotors, ceramic pads, new calipers on all four corners. The 1st 20k+ they were great. After that, one caliper after another started failing and the overall performance faded. The warranty program was not a pleasant experience either. I went back to OEM. I'll go oem on the Taco when the time comes.

OEM is superior to PS any day of the week in terms on longevity and quality...for rotors, pads and callipers

    OEM works fine for me.

For aftermarket I have used Wagner brand for many years with no issues.
