The stock 4Runner weighs as much as modded Tacomas, so 4Runner brakes are a good and relatively cheap upgrade, especially if you run 35" tires like I do. My setup:
    • StopTech 4Runner slotted rotors P/Ns 126.44174SL, 126.44174SR
    • Advics P/N AD0976 OEM-equivalent pads with shims
    • PowerStop P/N S6278 reman 4Runner calipers including all the hardware
    • OEM 4Runner brake dust shields 4778160140, 4778260140 - they clear the All-Pro spindle gussets

Advics pads are dust-free and noise free. The slotted rotors are great for clearing the pad surface after water crossings.

As with any aftermarket part, you have to be vigilant about quality. The StopTech rotors required me to sand away the E-coat on the center bore before they could seat on the hub correctly.

My first set of the Powerstop 4Runner calipers I put on my Tacoma were flawless. My second set of the same P/N bought for my 4Runner, came in with displaced dust boots on half of the pistons. Easy enough to fix with a pocket screwdriver though:
