I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
I just switched to running 91/93 when Ike hit. Gas prices were going down so I thought I might as well give it a try.

Now I'm back to running 87, or when my current tank runs out.

Haven't noticed anything too different yet, except for smoother idling.

I wish I could, but right now premium is right at $4/gal here in south texas.

I had less fear of buying premium when gas was on its way down and premium was only $3.60 or so.

Pardon me. Tacomas don't need premium. The engine runs fine on 87. I have only run 87 octane in my 05. I have never run any higher grade. 96,000 miles on it & not a single problem.

I have ran 89 octane in my new Tacoma since I bought it in June. I tried some 87 last week and noticed hesitation during acceleration. I went back to 89 last fill up and my overall engine performance seemed so much better. I'm going to stick with 89 octane.

    :/

Being in Colorado we only get 85/87/91 octane gas, and 85 octane gas is more expensive than what most people here are paying for 87! 85 is around $3.88/gal now, 87 is around $4.08/gal, and I think 91 is $4.28. I've always understood that the 85 octane was better for vehicles with carburetors at altitude, but with most modern vehicles using fuel injection, it seems pointless.

Actually, it looks like I was wrong, per wikipedia:
So, I guess I should be ok running 85 octane?

I know my manual says something like "premium for maximum performance", but I've heard the newer manuals say something different. Anyone with an 07+ care to confirm that?

Never ran reg, so I don't have a number. Keep in mind, I live in Flat Florida and am usually (I'm not perfect dammit) fairly light on the pedal.

Has anyone tested to see if the MPG is better with straight gas vs gas with 10% ethanol? It is getting hard to find a station around here that does not contain some ethanol. I have never run a full tank on straight gas...

Ethanol reduces mpg, from what I have found.

Switched from 91 to 87 about 6 months ago and have not seen a difference at all. Driving style is mostly city driving, 75% of the time and highway 25% of the time. We will see what happens in the winter when I start the drive up to the mountains and see if there is a significant drop from when I was running 91.

So now that Ike is over and price of a barrel of oil has gone below $100, why hasn't the price of gas gone below $3.00/gallon?

    Phuqing oil companies!!

^Has nothing to do with the oil companies. The refineries are not back to operating at the same capacity as before Ike. Just because the storm is over doesn't mean they can immediately start operating. How many people are still out of their homes in TX and it's been a week? Stop blaming the "big bad oil companies" for things they have no control over.
