    Sea Foam

I've watched it make mowers that were running rough start running better just because the gasoline used was mixed with the seafoam.....I have used it in my truck and need to start again....once a month it was dumped it.

good question, has anyone? If they have, did it help?

Fuel in the fuel tank, oil in the crankcase, coolant in the radiator.

Amsoil PI here. Every oil change. I think I remember seeing that most dealerships (it might be in the owners manual?) add a fuel additive every oil change. And P.I. is the best you can get IMO.

most quality name brand gasolines already have good detergent in them so i don't feel the need to add a fuel additive all the time or even every oil change. maybe once every 20-30K miles i'll add Techron just to be sure. i think it is cheap insurance.

Just because a truck smokes when Seafoam is sprayed in doesn't mean that that smoke is coming from burned-off deposits. Most if it is probably coming from the burning the Seafoam itself. I'm of the opinion that if you use good gas in a new truck then you shouldn't need cleaners; the exception would be if you have let your truck sit all winter (but if you are going to do that you should use a fuel stabilizer). On an old used vehicle that's running rough carb cleaners can work well though. I used a spray-in cleaner on a '50 Desoto that had set in a barn for 30 years and it ran a whole lot better.

Do a search on "fuel injector cleaner study," read through the .pdfs that you find, and you will begin to see that most of the people who promote cleaners also are involved in manufacturing or selling them.

While manufacturer's/seller's study results should be taken with a grain of salt, you can get a good overview of how fuel injectors work, why they might clog and what can be done to unclog them if you read enough of these articles though.

What I've ascertained so far is that these cleaners have a lot in common with paint stripper, lacquer thinner and Goof Off and can do a world of damage to rubber and plastic in the vehicle if not used properly.

Carb and injector cleaners seem to work well for older vehicles where varnish has been allowed to build up but there are mixed results for newer engines. Engines that have done a lot of short-trip long-storage driving might benefit from an occasional cleaning. However, several auto manufacturers tested engines for huge amounts of run-time without a single failure due to a clogged injector.

Some studies have said that, while some engines do have deposits, these don't really affect performance all that much. However, when these deposits are stripped off then redeposited they sometimes can cause more problems than if they were left alone.

I put a bottle of Lucas Fuel Treatment in about every oil change interval.
