    other part no.17630-16040

What function does this do? In my truck I see that this part is sealed by a mechanic, it does not have a hose as I see in other vehicles.

It prolongs the life of the pump....but it can have a limited lifespan...
old dirty fluid is its enemy...same with never replacing the hoses....
thats a bad ideal....they secretly rot from the inside out....
some guys here think toyota uses magic dust....
    .....trust me they dont..

alot of pump/rack failures we hear about here.....
about $700 in parts to replace....and another $200 for the valve...
    OUCH....

A lot here will chime in that their 25yr old hoses are just fine...

and then a year later their shopping for a new rack or pump...

dirty hydraulic fluid, makes great cutting fluid.....especially at 1200psi. Whats really crazy....I've seen a lot replace either/or, and then just continue to use the old rotten hoses....

In 2001 toyota switched to an electronic one....to eliminate the possibility of it leaking into the intake....when its in its death throws...

I've never heard of a stall created by a bad valve.....
many taco owners over the years have eliminated it and reported no perceivable difference...

It's primary purpose is to create a controlled vacuum leak that raises the engine idle speed when the steering wheel is turned. The additional load placed on the engine could lower the idle enough to stall - the valve is a means to prevent that. You're loosing fluid through a bad valve diaphragm which is drawing the fluid directly into the intake, hence the smoke.

    It does nothing.

The engineers put it there purely to keep collecting a paycheck. The accountants looked the other way because the engineers pick up the after-work happy hour tab on occasion.

It's the truck equivalent of a vestigial organ.

ITs like the egr.....dont think toyota wants to put a match to hundreds of dollars in extra parts.....multiplied by hundreds of thousands of vehicles..... just for BS...
    that would make no cents....

Its funny how loyal you guys are to toyota,,,,,and yet, you think they're idiots...

Hey guys great thread, I'm in the middle of figuring out which part number to replace mine with I found a couple on eBay that were used is there a replacement part number for this because all the ones I can find were for 4Runner and a series of lexuses and RAV4s. So I guess the question I have is once again, what's the replacement part number for that?
