    Hey All,

    Auto - Prerunner.

I am looking to get a little input on your thoughts.

    Current ratio is 4.10

    Im thinking I should regear the truck since when I'm @ 70MPH in overdrive I'm @ 2250RPM's.

Im thinking either 4.56 or 4.88 any ideas?

    I am running 265/75/R16 Wheels/tires.

My goal is to make it more drivable, I know that sounds weird but going up a small hill @ 2000RPM's with the SC and putting 2-4PSI of boost before the tranny changes doesn't seem right. I would rather boost at a higher RPM Range.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you.

What size tires are you running?

Are you trying to make the engine turn more or less rpms? I turn somewhere around 2800 rpm give or take a few with a 5 speed manual at around 70mph.

    Everything else held equal:

4.56 will give you approx. 2500 rpms at the same speed.

4.88 will give you approx. 2680 rpms at the same speed.

    More.

I put it into overdrive off and I was at 3250@ 75mph which I feel is OK.
With OD on it seems super low for the engine specs, I go into boost regularly around 2000 2250 rpm's@65-70 MPH

With the overdrive on the tranny keeps me @2250 during normal 4th gear operation @70 MPH.

Have you got that reversed? Overdrive off and you turn 3250@ 75?

OD on you are at 2250@70?

Thanks TT, So if I read your post correctly…

    @ 70MPH in overdrive ON I'm @ 2250RPM's.

    W/4.56 2500 rpms

    W/4.88 2680 rpms

Call me stupid but how did you come to that conclusion?

I checked quite a few gear ratio calculators and none of them(that I found) take into consideration that the Auto Tranny in 3rd is 1-1 but in 4th(overdrive is .705)

Hit it again and OD is ON RPM's go down…

as stated above, something ain't right because in O/D you should be at your lowest RPMs at highway speed. This is due to the 1:0.7 ratio.

As for the calculation, I assumed the RPMs given were readouts from your tach at speed. Then just divided out 4.1 and multipied by the new ratios (4.56 and 4.88).

What about more boost? Find a smaller pulley?

    Yup, User error.

I hit the OD button and type that it is off when is is the opposite.

With the Auto tranny OD is always On. Until you hit the button and then it is OFF.

    Wish it was the opposite.

    Man I am annoying myself.

    If I don't touch anything my RPM are 2250 @ 70mph.

If I hit the OD OFF button the Rpm's jump up.

    I would like to be around 2750 Rpm's to 3000 Rpm's @ 70 MPH.

    So 4.56 or 4.88?

i have a supercharged 04 4x4 with 285/75r16s and regeared to 4.88s and absolutely love it. not sure it'd be worth it to regear with 265s though...

I would leave it to be honest. That's where the engine was designed to be at with the auto transmission. If you need more go just kick it out of overdrive or put your foot down and it will shift.

    Why not?

Your tires are only 3.7% bigger than mine?

Im almost 32 and you are almost 33?

    265/75-16 285/75-16 Difference
    Diameter inches (mm) 31.65 (803.9) 32.83 (833.9) 1.18 (30) 3.7%

If a 32 is the largest tire you ever intend to run, then 4.56s will put you back close to where it was with 31s.

Yeah, why would you want to be turning almost 3000 RPM? Excessive wear to the engine and shitty mileage are a'comin.
