Please vote only if you already regeared. If you aren't pleased with the gears you chosed please vote the gear ratio you think would have been better. Note: 2nd generation on 33 inch tires with 4.0L V6 automatic since is most common.

Is this poll for 4.0 auto, 4.0 MT, 2.7 auto or 2.7 MT? Each will use a different ratio to work right. Just my opinion

I don't find running 285s with a V6 with stock 3.73 bad enough to warrant a regear. If I had to regear, I would skip 4.10 and go with either 4.27 or 4.56. A 4cyl with stock 4.10s would be a dog to run 285s regardless of regear. Personally for a 4cyl, you have to base your gears on the type of driving you mainly do.

I've got a 6cyl 2wd 6speed and regeared to 4.30 when doing the Trutrac and also in anticipation of 33's.
Lots of fun as it is with the URD short shifter and 265/75/16 now though.

4.56 with 295/75R16(33.4”) BFG TA/KO2’s E-rated tires. No armor, only weight in the bed is my full-size spare. I do feel slightly over-geared because of the lack of weight but it did feel great when I had to load a some power equipment and a toolbox for my stepdad. If I had to do it again I’d have gone with 4.30 since I don’t carry weight on the daily

Don't you have to high RPM on the highway already?

I'm in the camp you need gears when going to 33's. I ran 255-85-16s for awhile. City driving didn't really notice. On the highway with elevation change is where it reared it's ugly head. WAY to much dropping out of OD. I would go 4:30s.

    I went with 4.56 on a 4.0L 4x4 Automatic with 285/75/16 Cooper AT3 XLT
I also ran those same gears with 265/75/16 Cooper ST Maxx

Both setups ran great and felt much more pep and torque than the stock gears. RPM's were a bit high with the 265's when I got over 75mph, but living at 5000ft elevation I really liked having it revved higher.

Here is a link to a post I made several months ago. It's basically the equations of my speed vs rpm for 373 and 456. Nothing on the truck changed between these two except the gears. I've got the excel file if you would like it.

2.7 MT with 4:10's from factory - it struggles on big grades - but Ohio is pretty flat until you get into the South Eastern part of the state

It would be a further attempt to make it more "peppy". I've had hptuners for a few months and modified the shift parameters. It's helped a lot. Holding gears a little longer and downshifting a little earlier making it stay in a better power, torque range. Plus I may go a little bigger on tires in the future. Don't get me wrong, 4:56 is what a lot of user on here go with for 33ish tires. I think a lot of people use 4:56 for 35s. I probably should have said I wish I would have purchased gears and a supercharger.

I have 4.88 with 32.5” tires. Plan is to go 34-35. But I can speak to how it feels with 4.88 currently I can say that 4.56 would be better for 33”

33's with a MT and stock gears. Fully armored and tow our tiny camper all up through the mountains. Stock gears are ok but would do 4:56's if I go any bigger with the tires

Base on your chart the difference is not that much. My debate was mainly between 4:30 & 4:56 , but 4:88 is a no no for me. I think 4:88 with 33' tires will be to high for highway

Rereading should be on your mind. You will get more power back. On a 4x4 it will cost you between $1500 to $2500 depending on the shop.

285/75/17 load range E, full armor, v6 auto, I went with 4.56 never feel like I’m underpowered now can cruise on the hwy in OD. With 3.73 had to cruise in 4th it was awful night/day difference in drivability.
