Ya people say the tacoma is bad at towing, but you should be fine with that set up. 4k is 33% less than max capacity and with brakes you should be fine. Pretty sure the 2020 are prewired for the controller to.

Yes. But weight is only part of it. It's 23' long, and height. That is a huge sail he's pulling. Most forget to factor that in to it.

That reminds me does the 2022 come standard with the transmission cooler unlike some previous years?

We need a group home for Tacoma people with extreme anxiety about how well their stock truck can haul, tow, and drive down dirt roads without $5000 in mods.

Have faith in your taco, peeps.

no offense to the OP. I’m talking about the people spread fear to the new posters.

I can't speak for the older generations, except for my mum pushing 60 (who didn't know about engine braking), but people my age and younger (30ish) don't know a lot about engine braking unless they drive stick. We don't have a ton of hills (or even younger generations who drive stick) but on the ills we do have I use it to its full advantage. No reason to wear out my brakes, overheat the drums and rotors and warp the crap out of everything for a fluttering, vibrating, or jumping brake pedal.

Owners manual says to use S4 for towing. If u feel the need for more u can still use the ect button with a tune.

I found towing anything around 2k lbs, S5 works fine for my v6. I guess for heavier work S4, or the use of ECT.

That’s an often repeated falsehood. The manual says to use s-mode for engine braking when towing and not towing.

If you leave it in D, I hope you still have a warranty….otherwise don’t ever tow 2 ton in drive, you’ll smoke your trans……….

Use the S mode. Don't be afraid to use the lower gears and let the engine stay in the power curve. Stay over to the right side with the big rigs and "sane" RVers. Don't get in any hurries. Use the lower gears to keep the speed in check on the down grades. You'll should get the hang of it in a bit. You'll probably be giving the tips on towing in no time. Good luck and mostly, don't get in any hurry. The truck will tow that weight no problem, believe me. You'll know the trailer is back there, and that is a good thing. Practice a few stops before getting on the highway/interstate.

I've always towed in S4 with ECT on. I should pick up one those redarc trailer brake controllers.

Yeah, get the brake controller and the weight distribution hitch to go with the trailer.

I've been given this advice as well. The weight distribution hitch is a great help!

For a guy that drives a 6MT, you really like arguing about towing with an AT, don't you?
