I don't believe so. They may have other handhelds that do.

I stand corrected. Has a Bluetooth option. It seems I can pair it with my Android. Wasn't able to figure out how to see/share the screen though.

Only iPads with cell modems (e.g. can do cell data) have GPS built-in. A WiFi-only iPad won't have a GPS chipset. They can connect to a Garmin GLO via Bluetooth for GPS location. All iPhones have GPS chipsets so they'll work on or off the cell grid.

You can get a GPS dongle with Bluetooth to connect to fairly cheap.

are you looking for just an off road GPS for trails or regular GPS?

Garmin explore + or the mini are great. With the subscription you can BT them to an IPAD or other device. The service also comes with satellite SMS messages (but only works after you message someone). I enable the service off and on when I have a lot of trips planned.

    Mini

    Explorer +
    https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/561269

Hooks up with Earthmates app for messaging and maps. They always do some sales around holidays and Costco has them from time to time.

I use Google For all else.

Gaia Pro with offline maps and Lead Nav for route planning.

Also for CA stuff check out californiatrailmaps.com for about $50 you get lifetime maps. He maps all the OHV trails in CA. You can layer them into mapping apps.

This was very helpful! Thank you! And yes I am mostly looking for something to use when hitting off roading trails and blm land/hiking. I can use my phone and car play/android auto for everything else.

Side note, i used to work at sprint and have an account open for my friends one line. Found out that they are giving out free unlimited service lines to customers who were with sprint. Bought a preowned iphone 8 for $100, and now i am able to use gaia maps on my in dash nav.

With that said, I am still thinking if picking up something like the explorer for when I am out trying to find lakes to fish.

the Garmin In Reach's are nice. They have a service plan you need to get full use but if you use it often enough it worth it. The plans are selective so you can enable 1 month at a time if you want. thats what i do.

What about a good mobile GPS that you could enter exact coordinates in for something like property boundaries, as well as record/map trips?

Is that a handheld unit? I don’t want it on a phone. Needs to be rugged

Not turn by turn exactly like google maps, but you’ll be able to see where you are at off the grid
