So, I was driving on the freeway with my foot on the gas and all of a sudden I lose power. Pressed further and still nothing. Immediately I tried to pull to the side with the momentum that I still had and barely made it. I got to the side and realized a loud clicking sound. Shut the engine off and started the truck back up. And the clicking got louder. Long story short the car is sitting in the driveway and have toyota roadside scheduled to bring it to the dealer in the morning. Any ideas what the problem might be? Also, when the tow truck was dropping my truck @ home the guy noticed something fell. And it was what looks to me as a broken bolt... =/

Oh and toyota roadside is pretty bad. They NEEDED to know my exact location and I repeated myself multiple times and even used their high tech website gps map function. The rep knew I was on the side of the freeway but decided to take her time instead of trying to get a tow truck out to me ASAP and she couldn't find the toyota dealer... So, I decided to use my AAA to get me home atleast.

I love the 20 guesses game!

    3. Ok, what happened to kill the original fuel pump?

    4. What other issues happened before this and who worked on it? That bolt head looks stripped by over tightening, perhaps the reason why it is broken.

It was a faulty fuel pump with the nice chirping noise which was covered by a tsb.
And no other issues prior to the fuel pump and now this stuff that happened today

Just reading up on it, I think @PROseur is right. Ive heard of people carrying a spare CPS when offroading in case this happens in the backcountry too. Good heads up!

Not the first time this has been reported. Wonder how many cases need to be reported in order to file it as a recall.

As far as problem goes, CPS comes to mind.

I'm guessing Toyota has rolled the monetary dice and has figured it's cheaper to let it break, have a pissed off customer, risk an possible serious accident or class action suit than to contact owners effected with these issues and get it fixed!!

Makes me want to buy another one, not!

No, they had a run of bad parts from an external supplier, seemed to have determined the lot and have reached out to owners via the recall website and mail notification, the CPS have been replaced with a different piece and new identification marks / part number.

It's also plausible a part not on the recall list has gone bad.

Ive owned a lot of brands over the years and lots of vehicles. both wife and i put a lot of miles on our vehicles. Had a few issues with some vehicles and none with others and every brand we owned all had and handled most issues about the same. I will say over all the vehicles the Toyota brands we had have had the least issues of all the others but id still not hesitate to buy any of the brands out today. People make the parts and put them together. Plus machines and robots too and when this complicated of a machine comes out and hundreds of thousands are sold some will have issues for sure.
