So OZ, I was reading an article last nite, seems a lot of Canadians are not in love with the idea of putting an oil pipeline across three or four major watersheds. Same kind of dynamics up there? Jobs/commerce V the environment?

Capitalizing the W and adding the question mark detracts from the overall effectiveness of the " wut " IMO

People in BC are generally opposed to the pipeline to the coast here due to the shitty track record of the company building the pipeline as well as the thought of Chinese supertankers in our inner waters , which we have had an unofficial moratorium on since the '70's

It's the same company that dumped 100,000's of gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo river last year

    .

I take it a lot of the local economy depends on the environment in the fisheries and tourism?

Gee all anybody has to do is ask the folks up in Prince William Sound or the American Gulf Coast how they fared after huge spills.

I think it was correct to oppose the Keystone, be very aware when it's the companies themselves writing the EIR's.

Guy, it's the written internet, not a verbal conversation. One has very little to do with the other. It's true fewer have actual conversations today, but that trend started long before Myspace, Facebook, or texting. Some claim television was/is the real culprit in that regard.

Noun: conversation (kĂ´n-vur'sey-shun); The use of speech for informal exchange of views, ideas or information etc.

By the way, is that enough "conversation" for you? :D

The internet is no place for actual discussion. I have no idea what the point of all this typing about what people type is all about. Did I spell that right? Was the grammar correct? Can I be mad without using profanity, capital letters or crazy amounts of punctuation? Is subliminal sarcasm allowed? If I don't know the rules, how can I properly violate them? What is off-topic when it has a topic?

Okay, the word "pea" has long been used to describe something small (as in "as small as a pea"). Since the peanut is a small nut, the name "peanut" stuck.

The federal government up here wants this coastal pipeline to happen so that we can stop relying on the US as the only market for our oil , so , to that end , they recently amended the rules governing environmental assessments for major projects like this one to " streamline " the process

100% disagree , the internet is just another venue for discussion , and spelling and grammar are a part of literal conversation , however most people seem to save their stupid for the internet for some reason .

Problem is, IMHO, it seems like classless is the new classy. Douche is the new edgy, and if you can't appreciate edgy, you're a stuffed shirt who probably condemns zippers. People are becoming all about "my" rights, and others not trampling them. It's less and less about giving a shit about your neighbours, and more and more about being able to do what you want. It'd be like sitting at home with the TV cranked, and your wife/husband/roommate/beaver comes and says, "Hey, can you do me a favour and turn it down? I can't hear what I'm listening to?" and instead of being considerate, you say, "SCREW YOU! YOU'RE OPPRESSING ME! IT'S MY RIGHT!"

I remember telling my buddy thank gosh there wasn't an internet when I was in high school. I'd be mortified if a lot of the crap I did showed up on Youtube. Problem is, I can probably find a hundred examples of what I'm talking about, because now a days people think, "Cool! I should record this and put me on Youtube!" Snookie, Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashien...really, these are people to look up to?

Then there's the whole attitude of, "I woke up this morning, therefore I deserve everything you have!". I used to do pensions for the UAW, and I have a friend in the CAW. "Why should you make more than me? Because you're elitist!" No, douchebag, because I didn't want to turn bolts for a living, so I went to University for four years, then continued to further my education so that I can perform a more difficult job. Joke was on me, however, since in Canada, I could be making $34 an hour without having a student loan instead of (what I was doing at the time) making $20 an hour as a senior account manager at a bank, and putting in unpaid overtime, not because I had to, but because I gave a crap about about my clients. It's no longer acceptable to say, "Work hard and stay in school, or you'll be a ditch digger" because a) that's elitist, and b) ditch diggers now make damn good money. Funny thing is, I can't stand all day because of a back issue, so I've often wondered if I got a white collar job if I should get top up from disability since I am unable to make the kind of money my buddy turning bolts makes.

I remember talking to a colleague about a guy I chewed out who was on the verge of bankruptcy, but was making payments on his 21 year old daughter's brand new car. She said, "You'll see when you have to buy your girls a car?" WTF?? "I'm not buying them a car...I'm moving to an island, and not even getting them a boat!" "You sure everyone's gone, Daddy?" "Yes, Pumpkin, now eat your pinecone" I'll let them loose when they're 28...once I'm okay with boys coming to the door.
