what happened

Looks like I got a leak...can anyone diagnose?

 

Does the boot have a split in it..

 

CV boot has a cut or a hole in it. You can get a boot kit for pretty cheap, but I have seen a lot of people just buy a new lifetime warranty shaft from Advance Auto for $69.

 

Definitely cv grease. Get a new boot or entire shaft asap yo

 

Op...just curious how many miles have you had on your truck since you installed the your lift kit

 

How do I know if I should get just a boot or a whole new shaft and boot?

 

Truck has 45k..lift has been on for aprx 24k. Why?

 

when you lift your truck it changes the angles of your cv and makes them more prone to wear...just curious how long it took for them to tear. Do you do alot of 4x4 driving?

 

It's up to you. At this point you could probably get away with only a boot, if you have the tools and knowledge to change it. It's easier to replace the whole shaft. If you haves big pry bar to pop it out of the differential.

If you wheel it, do not replace with Autozone or auto part store shafts. They break constantly off road. Get a remanufactured stocker - http://www.cvjaxles.com/offroad.php

 

So dealer just quoted me:

Parts: $400 for OEM Shaft
$60 for Just the boot

Labor: $250 to replace boot
$175 to replace the whole shaft

The good news is it is covered under my powertrain 5 year / 60K miles (Whih is up this May!)

dodge a small bullet! The question is will they replace the whole shaft or just the boot?

I have an appt with the service manager on monday. keep you all posted!

 

If it's covered under warranty, why wouldn't they do the whole shaft? Easier for them and it's out of the shop sooner.

 

Did they know you lifted the truck when they told you it would be covered under warranty ?
