Nothing, I rarely shut the truck off when I fill up. Like stated before unless there is a short something could happen but not likely.

You maybe subject to prosecution to the fullest extent of the law, including but not limited to:

Paying for all property damage, being put on YouTube as a poster boy for stupidity, being burned alive at the pump and sold as barbecue hot dog. These are just some, there maybe others depending on the circumstances.

    You have been warned

    Have a nice day
    Cheers!

Lol. Yeah. Because filling your tank with the engine running is SUPER efficient at cleansing the gene pool.

I only fuel up if the station shuts down all lanes so no one else can pull in with a running vehicle while I am fueling.

    To answer OP’s question.
I pretty much never turn the engine off in the summer. Which is 358 days of the the year here. That’s AC has to stay on.

I really don’t see how a running engine can ignite gas vapors anyway unless the fill tank is right next to the spark plugs

The reason you are required to shut off the engine is not that it is hazardous if everything goes right. However, if the automatic shut off malfunctions fuel spills onto the ground into a pool of liquid , there is a higher opportunity to ignite the vapors flashing off of the pool of gasoline if here is an engine running. Larger surface area of gasoline in a pool that means more vapors flashing off and a higher likelihood that the vapors will reach an ignitable concentration.

Shut offs fail periodically. This is why you shouldn’t sit in the cab and wait for the vehicle to fill up, but should stand outside monitoring the process.

when i fill up my diesel, i never turn it off......neither do trucks when they re-fuel........but gas has a lower flash point with the fumes and is probably considered dangerous........dont do it....shut down
