Thanks for the input. Basically for right now I need to leave it on while I'm living in Houston for my apprenticeship. When I get back home to Idaho I think it's going to be coming off. That's alot more frequently laid back and Offroad driving.

I want to resurrect this thread after ten years because I think this has been the source of a lot assumptions about disconnecting your sway bar on Gen 2 and newer Tacomas.

The OPs sway bar disconnected from the spindle which means that the sway bar arm and end link stayed put and ultimately hit the CV boot.

However, if one was to disconnect the sway bar where it connects to the bar itself, the end link would stay attached to the spindle. Under compression the link would move with the spindle and never touch the CV boot. With sway rotated up and away from the axle it seems like you should be able to wheel fine without hitting anything.

Is this not the case? If so why not? Search doesn’t provide good explanations so I’m hoping responses here will help others understand better going forward.

used to be a jeep guy, a lot of us used to disconnect the top end of the link, pivot downwards, and secure to the bar itself with zip ties or otherwise so it’s not an obstruction.

Haven’t looked too closely at the angles on our truck to see if that is possible, at least for anyone not running LT
