I have all of the oil left over. Not sure if I care to spend the money to ship it off and get it checked out.

In all the years I was in the Marines, we never did any long term storage of engines or equipment. We were required to start everything and run it, as well as keep the fluid changed at regular intervals.

During the time I was in (86-94) every piece of equipment, even those in storage, were required to be operated and tested on a regular basis. Every tank, amtrack, generator, truck, etc., had to be operated and PMed twice a year minimum. That is what we did to relieve the boredom! lmao.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
that is unreal. Its funny how some people can do that and drive it that long. If that would have been me, that truck would have died in half that time. Back in NC my uncle goes to church with this old lady, she is tugging on 90, and she is loaded, but lives a frugal life, and she has a 87 honda accord 4 door, she goes in one a year to have it inspected and have the oil changed wither it needs it or not. It gets washed when the Lord washes it, and 2 years ago she got mad because it would not pass inspection because the original tires were dry rotted. she has no kids, so he had to go to the dealership and explain to her that her tires were rotted. she has about 30,000 miles on that car. if some kid buys that car when she passes away, it will fly apart the first day. And they had to do the front brakes.

I know that old lady she drove Buick regal for 120 000 miles with no oil change. Car finely quit. My friend drove dodge for 50 000 miles with no change until engine died. I asked why she did not change oil, she said nobody told her. I felt bad but since oil change is common knowledge we think others know this. Turns out not really.

I know the guy who did the health studies on used motor oil...he got the used oil to test from the rental car fleets who AVERAGE 17k miles between changes.

Now it seems the change criteria on heavy vehicles is how much contaminants the oil can hold to meet EPA criteria, so large oil pans, long, long change intervals.

But I do think the motor is this case cleaned up nice.

Well as of right now we are waiting on parts to get here. New oil pump, head gasket set with bolts, timing set with new water pump, and new oil pan gaskets and all the other seals.

Well Phil didn't want to chance it. I said if I reused the old head bolts and used red 242 loctite on the threads, then retorqued them every 6 months he would be fine, but he didn't agree with me......:deadhorse:

Curious to know what the brake fluid for that poor truck looked like? I was given, for free, a non-running Honda motorcycle that had oil that looked a little like that, and the brake fluid had turned into a jelly. It looked like fish eggs and was beyond saving, I had to buy all new brake lines and master cylinder.

Left cylinder head is now built. Man I forgot how much I HATE dealing with valve spring keepers! haha. More photos to come. Next up will be the heads rebuilt, and procedure of installing a cylinder head and torquing the head bolts.

Toyota and Lexus have some pretty sweet tools for installing and removing the keepers now. You just push down with the tool and small magnets catch the keepers. Another tool that is similar re-installs them. We used them like crazy for the Lexus valve spring recalls for the GS and LS models. They are similar to this set but they are factory issue and they have a flat side to them so they fit all spring locations on the head.

Yeah, I just don't want to spend the $80 plus shipping. I don't do enough of the Toyota head jobs to warrant the expense as of yet. I have seen it. It is a nifty tool to have.
