    1. 4wd ECU gets input from 4wd switch telling it to go to 4wd mode (blinking 4hi light goes on)
    2. 4wd ECU sends power input to the motor ADD on front axle. its momentary so motor turns and then switches off when reaches max position . this is to constantly put pressure on the spring.
    3. Once splines align and ring locks front axle. Position switch in ADD tells 4wd ECU that front engaged.
    4. 4WD ECU now activates 4wd motor in transfer case. its momentary so motor turns to put the tension on the spring to move fork inside the transfer case.
    5. Once splines lined up 4wd gear moves into the 4wd position. 4wd switch tells ECU that 4wd engaged (4hi light goes solid)

...or something along the lines ;)

I hear ya. I dont like magical things either so spend time to learn.
Key items to remember is none of the motors are directly connected. Rather they expect spring tension to do the work. ECU expects input from switches on ADD and transfer case to tell it when either is in lock or unlock position.
Going off the 4wd is pretty much reverse order 5 ....1
4L only pushes fork into extra position but it does not touch front axle.

At least it was positive good natured wasted space instead of nasty comments we see so often.

I don't know what you're talking about. Every time I "turn switch to 4WD" that happens. If it doesn't for you ... you're pushing the wrong button.
