-Stock battery died within 1.5 years, but I live in Texas and it sat a lot the first two years so wasn't too upset. Toyota warrantied it, but I put the replacement battery in my mom's Highlander and got an Odyssey. I still remember the first time I started it with the Odyssey and hearing how much stronger the starter sounded, this upgrade is a must IMO regardless of when your battery craps out
    -HVAC Blower Motor Recall
-Leaking 3rd brake light I found after I aged out of 3/36, but I just got that fixed last month and Toyota covered the entire cost out of warranty

I love the truck. Put 265/75 KO2s on it and a Peragon tonneau cover is on the way, planning to drive it forever. Because it's a 16 I'm definitely being vigilant and keeping my eye out for anything else that hopefully crops up before my powertrain warranty expires this year, but I attribute this more to me being dumb and buying the first MY of a new generation and not necessarily a reflection of the truck itself, although I will say the only new Toyotas I will purchase going forward will be those with a "J" at the beginning of the VIN. I used to live near the San Antonio plant and went to school with a guy that worked there, lets just say I trust the Japanese a little more when it comes to engineering quality :burp:

Some got very unlucky with the 16s but I've been beyond happy with this truck. I think a late 17 MY build is the sweet spot, most of the initial issues were resolved, but before they added the TSS nonsense that from what I've seen and heard, causes more issues than it's worth.

Honestly, my biggest issue right now is that I got a Carvana offer out of curiosity which was 3k less than I paid for the truck 5 years ago. With a wedding to pay for next year, I'm trying to resist the temptation to sell it, buy an old Tundra with the 4.7 and invest the rest of the money until then.

That is fantastic... I'm envious...I am visiting my mom in NC right now (800 mile roundtrip, we drove another vehicle as my wife hates the Tacoma's ride) - I bought my mom a new vehicle over a year ago (Suburaru Forester) - she has put just over 3K miles on it, HAHAHA she is like you....I bought my mother in law a new Toyota C-HR in 2018...I took it to get serviced last week and she only has 22K miles on hers. My mom lives in in NC and very seldom goes anywhere...my mother in law was living in KY but I got her a little log cabin about 40 mines away from our farm and she travels to see us about once a week so she drives sparingly too but more than my mom (and you). Im currently looking to get my mom a home in TN near us (or even on our property)...maybe then she will rack up a few more miles, but nothing near the way I rack them up. I've got 106K on my truck now by the way...but it is resting in my garage for a few days.

2021 DCSB texas built with less than 600km. Noticed my driver side front wheel fender flare is coming off and my driver side rear seat was installed crooked. Took it to the dealer and they made an appointment for me in may. Other than those two minor issues it's been a solid truck (so far)

Only had to replace the battery twice because they failed load tests at the dealership. I had 0 battery issues outside of the dealership.

Still an ongoing issue, my hood is vibrating/fluttering at highway speeds due to the hood braces separating from the hood at the adhesive contacts. Has already been "repaired", I use that term loosely, by the dealership and their chosen body shop twice with the issue coming back almost immediately. Ive brought it up every service appointment I've had and next time I go in I am going to have a serious chat with the service manager about just replacing the hood.

Also, the paint on these trucks chip so easy from rocks.

    Too much.
2018 Taco here: had the 3rd brake light seal fail and destroy $1100 worth of amplifiers.

Repair cost for seal was almost $600

Mine has been getting everything 3 dealers can throw at it resolving my fully warmed up in gear rough idle for 3 years
NOT ANYMORE it's been getting factory attention for the last 3 days (Powertrain warrantee expires in 1400 miles) now thiers talk of a factory technition flying in from Cali to assist the two 'best guys we got' cause they think it's a sticky valve guide after swapping everything from the airbox to the ENTIRE wiring harness & it's STILL idling bad warned up @ a stop in gear.

At least I'm driving a 2021 tundra loaner with every damn option you can possibly get from Toyota.......nice ass truck I will say but the mileage 9mpg REALLY?

As Tim Allen would say......."Needs more power!". I did finally see an indicated 19MPG this past Sunday, driving back from the kid's mountain bike race. Wife was following me so I had to keep my right foot in check. Driving 65-70 makes quite a difference......imagine that??

Bought my 2019 late in the year and only 7K miles, yet ALREADY had the automatic shift knob become loose. I had to drop the collar clip, rotate the knob CW one turn and pull the collar back up. That’s 15 seconds of my life I’ll NEVER get back. POS truck. :D

It's totaled - leave it for me I'll take care of it for you, it'll only cost you 500$ for scrapping it, give me 500$ and sign it over, I'll handle the scrapping of your truck for you

I stopped by the stealership today just for shitts & grins, thier waiting on some kind of answer from the big guns in Toyota land as where this is heading (My truck) while walking around the lot a transporter showed up with 6 new tacos & before they hit the ground 6 vultures (salesman) intercepted the truck getting the MSO's from the driver to see who's 'presold' trucks were on the load yes every one was already sold & NOT ONE taco or tundra on the lot TOO sell. One of them was a DCSB PRO with everything you could order from the options list was on it including LED headlights with some other shit with that light package for $3600
Holly shit! my lights on my last Porsche 911 dident cost that much.

BTW total MSRP on the factory sticker was just shy of $49000.00

Wonder how widespread this issue is? Especially when it throws that goofy cylinder imbalance code. Curious if Toyota machined a bad batch of heads where the guides are to tight or something crazy like that. But I do hope they’re able to fix your truck and get ya back in the Tacoma!!
