What’s worse is the dealership filling it with a 90/10 mix of water/washer fluid and then it freezes.

Ok, I dont have my 16 anymore but here we go with the issues. All of these were pre-TSB's.

    Squeaky leaf springs.
    Noisy high pressure pump.
    Radio freezes.
    Shifting was god awful.
    Extended cranking (cranks sensor recall)
Lift vibrations, no one had a clue that a small lift would cause the axle vibration back then.

I have a bumper to bumper warranty, but they said it wasn’t covered.

apologies I’m running a ‘15 2nd gen and realized this is 3rd gen…but still, your thoughts?

Just noticed Steering Rack mount rust

Is this bad, like replaceable bad?

    2105-92k mi.
Central Maryland area weather & winters

I just DIY replaced pads and rotors(for 1st time) and noticed this. I last took it in for something else and they applied the frame protection coating. But should the rust be this bad on the steering rack?

Concerning rust in other photos? Especially for in suspension bushings and CV axle?

Excessive rust is a result of the time travel process to bring your vehicle back to current time after purchasing.

I'd apply some fluid film over the rust. Depending on where you live, maybe do it twice a year.

Hey all, MY 19 with 23k miles had a tension pulley fail. Needless to say, I lost PS and Battery charging ETC. I talked to Toyota about it, preferred to fix it myself. just fixed it yesterday. Time to go for a test drive, but so far that is all my truck encountered, the occasional clutch squeak fixed it self. The fuel pump recall was performed as well but it never gave me any issues.

I wonder how the 4Runner being Made in Japan fares when comes to issues in comparison with the north American made Tacoma's...

No different. There is an active 4th gen 4Runner frame lawsuit going on right now.

I don’t buy any of the “made in Japan so it doesn’t have rust issues” lines. Maybe Dana was building shitty frames for Toyota back in the day, but why do we still have rolling rust campaigns on current gen Tacomas? Toyota just specs crappy frame coating by design.

I don't mean to be a jerk but just a reminder for this weekend of thankfulness...

I've had two Toyota Tacoma's and bought my daughter two Camery's in that same period of time. Toyota as a automotive manufacturer isn't perfect.

It's ongoing frame issue, for example, is at the apex of a mountain of penny-pinching ignorance with regards to it appreciation of a loyal customer base it should be thankful for. But as a designer of automobiles, Toyota has pulled me away from a lifetime of loyalty to GM and its products because there is NOTHING like the reliability and utility of my Tacoma's and my daughters Camy's.

Lexas proves what they could be it they gave a crap and don't tell me quality materials and design would cost more. Doesn't matter what kind of engineer you are Detecting and having to fix a problem NEVER costs more than Preventing it from happening in the first place! We can their bean counters and the bonus plan for their management - plain and simple.

Imo, if toyota spec'd that dana coat their frames with cosmoline before shipping them to the toyota assembly plants like bmw, and mercede's they wouldn't have a frame problem. Really don't know what their problem is other than expecting their loyal base to keep buying their trucks knowing most will come back and buy another down the road. Initial profits must out weight any future loss of customers, or frame replacements for them.

i had a lot of issues with it "clunking" into gear on downshifts and upshifts. even made the truck jerk around when stopping. just felt "loose" for lack of a better term. I added a half quart of fluid and it shifts so much better. no more clunks and it's smooth as silk going into gear. I think it didn't have enough fluid.

In the calendar year 2020 the manufacturing began to fully shift to Baja, but that also means there are a good portion of 2021 model year Tacos that were manufactured in 2020 in Texas. Source: I have a 2021 Pro manufactured in Texas
