I recently upgraded from a 2011 Sport DCSB to a 2018 SR DCSB. I have already installed the fog lights (I was pre-wired), put a set off OR wheels and tires on that I bought from someone upgrading their truck, and replaced my cabin blower motor because the original one made this squealing noise at switch position 1 and 2. Took me 10 minutes, and noise is gone.

I love the truck, it is great. The motor has good power, and other than the occasional slam into first gear when coming to a stop, the transmission has been smooth.

I will admit, I enjoy being a weekend warrior and working on my truck. My next project is to pull the steering wheel back off to install the intermittent wiper switch.

Not at all. Toyota gets their direction for future models from carefully targeted focus groups, which this forum is definitely not a focus group. This is an enthusiast's site, where people come to talk about how cool mods are and ask questions to better their knowledge.
Basically this is not a complaint website. However, lemons happen and sometimes things slip through quality from the factory and they are discussed as well. But people who constantly bitch and moan quickly get called out and eventually ignored, as this is an enthusiast's place to be.

Well I haven't been like the "others" that try and sell them on getting a Ranger, Ridgeline or a Frontier. I've seen them on this site, chiming in when someone is looking to buy a Tacoma. If a 3rd gen checks the boxes have at it.

I can't sell anyone on getting a Frontier. So far it works for me, i'm sure the depreciation will be steep unlike the Tacoma. I don't plan on it being a long term vehicle either, but will be just as anal as I was with my Tacoma on oil changes etc.

Who ever buys my old Tacoma will likely get a truck that could be very well sorted and likely never rust given all the cavity wax in the rockers, doors, bed sides, inner fenders, inside the boxed sections of the frame, exterior of the frame etc

I wish I didn’t feel the need to explain myself, but some people are less-than friendly.

I made this post as I’m curious what other problems this truck has. There’s no issue with people collectively posting their experiences with their Tacoma. It’s quite informative for everyone to post the any problems/quirks about any vehicle.

I love my truck and I’m running it to the ground. I recently bought a new suspension, wheels, tires and more that I’ll be installing myself. I’m weighing my options to double check my decision.

2017 SR gauge cluster went bad. Apparently it’s common for the lower trim clusters to go bad.

Our 2017 has 62,000 miles - no issues.
The 2020 has 17,000 miles, transmission has been replaced (leaking seal, two repair attempts failed).

    Long list here:
So far…Replaced CPS ( under recall), had to tighten rear end cover fasteners (instead of going to stealer) , battery after 4-3/4 yrs as it stared to get weak, tires developed hair lines cracks at 60k replaced 4, I had to replace the OEM speakers because they didn’t sound like the ones on a BMW, I replaced the shit knob because it was not TRD, I had to install front and rear video cams because it didn’t come with them, I had to install mud flaps (non came with it) and I had to replace the front grill because the original was too plain and the pro one adds 5 hp.

Now after all these issues I’m all out of warranty and are waiting for the other shoe to drop, but the Ridgeline may call on me before that happens, we’ll see, I’m so disgusted

I've had the 3rd brake light leak into the cab. Had to fix it using the $10 option of clear silicone. Truck was just out of warranty about 3K miles. There is a TSB on this, but can only be fixed under warranty.

Recently took truck in for an oil change at the local dealership. They found some oil (not a whole lot) dripping down. They stated it would need to be in the shop so their master tech could "diagnose" this issue. Others have commented on TW that it a timing cover (seems to be a known issue). I called the dealer back a day or two later, he checked my VIN and when the truck first went into service, and I missed the 5Y/60K warranty by about 3 days at end of Feb. (truck was bought from a used independent dealer). So for now, I'm just gonna have to keep an eye on the oil. The dealer did clean up the area where the oil was leaking so maybe the next time in, they can at least MAYBE see where it's coming from.

Overall, I love my truck. But like anything man made, there are going to be issues. And at just a little over 50K miles, I should expect some minor stuff to start to crop up.

    C'est la vie.

Sorry man, that sucks! If it were me I'd throw a hail Mary. I would try and tighten those fasteners to spec, and replace the PCV valve.

    Good luck

1.Rear end whine when decelerating from 55-60 to 45. Every Hino axle/differential does this to some degree. No long term effects have ever been noted.

    2. Brake shoe issue discovered @ 500+/- miles. Covered under warranty without any dealership hassle at all.

That's it. I knew it was a gutless wonder when I bought it so that's on me. 2019 OR. Almost 28,000 miles.

    1. Rear seat latch broke (pretty sure it was broken when I bought it new - didn't notice it until a few months later).
    2. Both taillights shattered due to a manufacture defect (view post about it)
    3. Trim on roof keeps coming off and they always replace the wrong one so I've just been holding it down with tape. Gonna install a prinsu roof rack this summer so I can avoid this issue. The dealer broke it the first time and they replaced it... but the replaced the wrong one and wouldn't fix it when I asked about it.

Your truck must have the same model year driver as mine. Same issues. Waiting for factory recall or TSB on driver.

Started getting odd tire wear at 125,000. Replaced shocks. Had a U-Joint go bad at 170,000. Replaced alternator at 190,000. I put new TPMS sensors in it a couple of weeks ago with new tires. They were still working after nearly 14 years. That's it other than normal stuff like brakes, tires, batteries, fluids etc.. She's at 211,000 right now and I still have the factory drums and rotors. Rear brakes have only been replaced once.

My 17' has 82K miles. The only problem I had was the rear differential was leaking at 7K miles.
