What have you done to protect your tailgates from being stolen?

These tailgates are so insanely easy to steal, does anyone have any good suggestions on protecting them from these jerks we want to steal our stuff

I’ve looked through the threads and I haven’t seen any conversations on this.

I just drive my truck like normal and don't go to shady places and don't worry about it. Locks only keep honest people out anyways.

 

There are quite a few threads on this actually. Both diy mods and aftermarket parts exist which make removing the tailgate much more difficult.
Mostly the threads are 80% people telling you to get a remote tailgate lock, so it locks with your doors.

Keep it locked. That's what I did until I got a remote tailgate lock, which is a super cheap convenience plus security.

 

I installed a lock actuator. If someone wants to take the effort to steal it after that.... let them. I will get another tailgate... maybe off the blue truck over on Oak Street..











I would never do that!!! It's just a joke.

 

Keep it in the garage overnight...

 

I added OEM Remote Tailgate Lock. So it locks with my remote when I lock my car. Nothing else.

If it's that easy leave it home if you are afraid of some one stealing it! This I hate to tell you in is industry wide not just Tacoma's.

 

A fender washer on the torx bolt is more secure. Just put a spacer under it so the cable eye rotates.

…which is good. I like using what I have, that’s why I asked my neighbor for 2 washers because all I had was a hose clamp and I broke it off too easily testing it!

 

Can confirm, live in shithole Oklahoma, leave my doors unlocked and still no visitors. Although one of my employees shitbox Chevy Aveo was stolen last night for some reason?

 

Sounds like someone was doing them a favor. It’s not theft. It’s an intervention.

 

Find a spot where can back up close to a wall, pole, building etc?

 

Sabellco makes one that looks solid.
100 bucks though.

 

I lock the hardtop, lock the tailgate, put a square hose clamp on the hinge. So far all good
