Which ones did you go with?

 

Installed Frontrunner tracks and crossbars on my Diamondback cover. Drilling through the cover wasn't much fun, but it looks good and it's super solid. My install definitely isn't perfect (not sure how you get perfect on this type of thing), but I'm relieved I didn't totally screw it up.

 

I changed out the mirror turn signals with a set from Amazon when I saw them on sale last week. A big improvement over stock and not chrome!

 

Hey look I'm not the only one running lp4s on the a-pillar

 

Installed a QC3.0 dual usb socket in the back of the console. Definitely had to do some filing of the usb socket assembly to get it to fit right. Overall I am pleased.

Dear moderators: Please note this is a historical context on origins of Memorial Day. It is non-political. So please do not delete or ban me (again).

Now having said that, since today is Memorial Day, I thought I would share of the tidbits of knowledge I picked up in one of Civil War history classes I took at Ole Miss.

One of the stories that floats around in the history world is that after the South’s defeat in the American Civil War, there was still a great rift in the nation after the war. So on April 25, 1866, in an attempt to reconcile their differences, local ladies of Columbus, Mississippi laid flowers on the graves of both Confederate and Union soldiers to remember both sides of the war. This took place in Friendship Cemetery (how appropriate). Now as an interesting side note, various Southern States also have on their calendars (and some still celebrate) Confederate Memorial Day (with various dates in each). But that is completely separate event. A noted poet of the time, Francis Miles Finch, heard what the ladies had done, and wrote a poem called, “The Blue and the Gray.” This perhaps his most famous poem.
(Also it should be noted that various other locations claim the right of starting Memorial Day, but without the inspiration from the poet. And since this is Mississippi I'm talking about, we’ll take the right of claim.)

And I think it only fitting, since it is Memorial Day, to repeat his words here today:

By the flow of the inland river,
Whence the fleets of iron have fled,
Where the blades of the grave-grass quiver,
Asleep are the ranks of the dead:
Under the sod and the dew,
Waiting the judgment-day;
Under the one, the Blue,
Under the other, the Gray
