What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Fabricated a metal rock guard for the fuel tank, made it from 3/16” 5052.
Used the CBI fuel tank skid for R&D purposes, (Rip off and Duplicate) started with a cardboard template,and it evolved from there.

 

I definitely prefer the og 3rd gen headlights over the led (just seems so squinty and crammed) and I can’t get over how the front bumper to headlight trim plate indent look against them- such an afterthought design. Just doesn’t flow together IMO

I actually like them both but you can't completely black out the chrome reflectors on the LED's. Hopefully have these installed around around Oct 1st.

New Project: TRD Pro Skid plate

Well - what do you do when you have a BLACK truck, and a WHITE skid plate... honestly - the first thing I did was peel off the plastic letters. NO easy task, but since I have nothing but time, I set about peeling them off.
Took about an hour - and then I peeled off the backing tape and replaced it with new tape so when it was painted, I could stick them back on.


So - went down to the local ACE hardware, picked up two cans of Black Rustoleum (satin finish) and then sprayed 3 layers on it. Each day I let it lay in the sun for 12 hours - baked it on good, light sand between coats.
I think it came out pretty good. Not like I am perfect when it comes to painting - but I did a pretty damned good job.
THEN... stuck the *RED* TRD letters back on. OK... now its looking decent.

The stock skid plate...


Four bolts... and its gone.


AND.... then with the magic of the internet. POOF... the TRD Pro skid plate is on.
Project... completed. Now it matches the rest of the truck!

Swapped my 2017 TRD PRO headlights for 2020 TRD PRO LED headlights with @daveeasa plug and play wiring harness. Dave with the clutch trouble shooting save on short notice, (prior owner sneak attack… installed resistors for the turn signals that had to be undone). Pulling the flares, fender liner and bumper was not as easy as I thought it would be.

Huge upgrade in terms of light output. Also looks great! Thanks again Dave!

The only cons I can think of are fuming groceries in a covered bed maybe? And it's illegal in some states.

 

Removed the TRD decals. Much cleaner look.

 

Upgraded from 285/70/17 to 285/75/17. Damn. Time to bring out the saws and grinders.

 

my worksite has a shit driveway to the parking lot. A lot of nails, screws and staples on our parking lot

 

Ditched the stock 265/65/17 Toyo tires for some Cooper AT3s at 265/70/17.

No big plans to mess with wheels or lift so could only go up so much.

 

This is a legit mod. Excellent execution. Awesome work.

Great execution but as soon as you off road it, that pretty paint will be no more.

 

looks great! How does it hold up for stability? How did you attach the mounting point ball? Is it just 3M tape. I'm looking on their website in hopes to replace my current phone mount and this looks like it could work.

 

I just picked up my truck, but realized the gearing needed to be changed ASAP. 4.88’s installed Monday. Break in happening now.
