It got even better on my 2020 after driving for a while. I think it somewhat re-learns your driving style.

Don't know if you've already seen this in other threads, but I've heard really good things about using Sikaflex 1a or 921(?). It's a polyurethane not a silicone and it adheres better to both surfaces whereas silicone has a tendency to separate. One dude who worked on boats swore by the 1a. That's what I picked up for my install. Planning to apply under the bed rail caps since that's where some folx have noted intrusion. I think they were mainly talking about dust getting in (thread was about installing and RSI cap), but I swear someone mentioned water as well. Gotta find something suitable to plug up those gaps at the cab end of the bed too. Maybe the OEM pieces someone was just posting about.

Edit: I'm sub'd to the thread you posted in/has the RTV tip in it and saw that that's a totally different thing than what I was thinking about in terms of seams. Oops! Still recommend Sika for other stuff though!

The Sikalfex that the bodyshop uses at my workplace is a structural adhesive. Once the parts go together you are cutting then to get them apart and one part will not survive the separation. Not sure I would use it to seal a topper with.

Couldn't wait any longer to install the MESO DIY Stealth Kit for the shift knob. I was trying to wait for the next puddle pod drop so I could do it all at once, but I really wanted this in. Drivers side button is a momentary trigger for my SPOD that flashes my offroad lights, and passengers side is the ECT. This mod is even better than expected. 20211020_120502.jpg
Just need those puddles now @MESO

Sikaflex 291 and 291LOT are polyurethane sealants that are widely used in marine applications. I’ve used them a lot. They’re NOT structural adhesives, and parts assembled with them come apart pretty easily, though not as easily as silicone. (LOT denotes Long Open Time, slower to set up than the other stuff.) I don’t have experience with Sikaflex 1a, but looking online it seems like it’s also a sealant rather than a structural adhesive, but it looks to be more tenacious than the 291, which isn’t what you want. For my marine stuff I now mostly use the Loktite PL door and window sealant, which is similar to the Sikaflex 291 but about half the price and available at my local lumberyard.

Yeah, I edited to say disregard for the application he was talking about because I misunderstood, but that it's still great for other stuff when you do want them to stick together or be permanently sealed. Like what I'm planning to do with my bed rail caps. I won't ever need them to come off and I don't want dust coming in from there. I think I saw the 1a mentioned by someone who was sealing around a hole they made to run a wiring loom into their cap? Can't recall.

@lightning good to know theres a specific LOT version, thanks

Just FYI I have ordered items from her and although there was little to no communication everything has arrived
in a timely manner, and I'm in Canada. I'd order from there again with little reservation. Just sayin.

I’d definitely get some better grade 8 bolts to use.

A couple mods that are definitely worth the effort and then some: license plate light covers from this thread and rear seat raisers from @mrproduxn. Reverse light glare and uncomfortable seat syndrome eliminated in 1 day!
