You're going to love building an FFR. I built a MKIII with the tubular control arms, Koni Shocks, 3 link rear end and dual roll bars. Tons of fun, just make sure you research what you are going to be doing on any given day using the FFCars.com forum. If you have any questions pm me and ill try and answer as best I can. I built mine 14 years ago for my 50th birthday and it took me 6 months without the paint job.

ARE topper. Mud guards, factory steps, third bed rail behind cab, tacorail accessory holder, ram mount tablet mount, hood wrap and retro stripes. Bug shield and window shields. Molle seat cover on tear seat.
I have those on mine. Don't plan on rock climbing or heavy trails, just some light scenic ones. I have to have them for my wife who has a disc disease and she needs them to get in the truck. I traded my beloved raised jeep for the taco because she could no longer get in without a step ladder.

    This one’s a little different…
I deleted the stupid, loud air equalizing vents from the back wall of the cab. Before anyone freaks out I drive a Kenworth T800 every day with a fully sealed cab so I can live with having to shut the doors a little harder and remembering to turn the HVAC off of recirculate when I park it. It already makes a huge difference in noise plus I’ve got some killmat to put on as well.

This is one of the 2 vents if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Holes sealed up with stainless steel plates attached with automotive adhesive and sealed with silicone sealant (I can weld but didn’t want to have to do the additional body work that would require)

So I understand the issue of having to kinda slam the doors but why turn the ac recirc off when you park it? I have thought about doing the same thing to kill some of the noise. My 72 ford doesn’t have vents and the doors are tough to close but I’m good with that.

    Yeah
The inside needs to breath to let bad smells and moisture out. When parking in the garage I just leave all my windows half way down but if you need to leave the windows up your next best course of action is turning the HVAC to outside air.

Also in hot weather the pressure could potentially build up so high the glass could break. I’ve never seen this happen personally but it’s something the old truckers are always warning about in sealed cab trucks.

Essentially if you set it to re-circ and don't have any other venting you can asphyxiate, or at least drop oxygen levels low enough to cause problems. As long as you know about it, you can adjust your routines to compensate for it. Not a mod I would do, personally, but I do appreciate it when somebody does something so off the wall that I go:

Suddenly the 5-4-3 gates are smooth and direct on down shifting?

The vent is far from sealed in mine. With recirculate on I can still smell the stench when I'm behind an oil burner or diesel. I doubt very seriously that enough pressure could build up to pop the windshield out or break glass.

Heh, I've found that I really don't use 5th much at all. The way I accelerate I tend to finish accelerating in 4th, then jump to 6th. When I do use 5th, yeah it's a little clunky but I think some of that may be the amount of reach involved as much as anything else.

I use fifth quite a bit on the way up to the mountain to ski. Winding road, up hill and down. The gate from 5-4 is stupid.

If only a knob would fix it.

PS the '79 RX-7 DOES NOT HAVE THAT ISSUE ;-)

My Mazda3 didn't have that issue either. After installing a Mazda3 shift knob in my Taco it hasn't been enough of an issue to annoy me. Knobs make all the difference.
