You might be onto something! You should travel the country visiting Tacoma owners, so they can pay you for staring at their front diffs…

I give you all the credit as the mastermind !! After I get my dealer to pull the shaft and inspect the bushing, I'll start on that list of Tacoma owners. Thank you.

My first truck! Picked up my Sport 4x4 last week and have been busy at it, today I did the grill, plate and tow points. Wheels and tires, rock sliders are next.

For the first 20 years of driving I always changed my own oil and did the routine maintenance. Then for the next 30 years I had the dealer do it for convenience. Five years ago I retired and started doing my own maintenance again but this is the first time I have ever changed my own transmission fluid. Since I bought it new over 6 years ago I decided to not only drain the transmission fluid but also drop the pan and filter. There was another 2 quarts of fluid in the pan and filter for a total of 4 quarts removed. It took 4.5 quarts to fill it according to specs so it was a half quart low from the factory. My dealer told me it was full when I asked to check it shortly after buying it since there was a long thread of many trucks coming from the factory low on fluid. You can't always trust the dealers. I did find some sludge and small metal shavings on the magnets so I was glad I dropped the pan. The first photo shows the filter assembly next to the pan and I chose not to replace it since it is not constantly getting contaminants in it like the oil filter. I was also going to change the rear differential fluid but after working over 3 hours in 96* F weather it took a toll on my old body so I decided to do that project next weekend. I also put in 10 ounces of Lubeguard at the advice of @gearcruncher from the following link post #11. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ransmission-replacement.754387/#post-26887607

The following link caused my initial concern 6 years ago. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/

I have not driven it more than a few blocks so far. It needs to be remembered that even with dropping the pan and removing the filter It is still only about half of the total amount of fluid that is actually changed. The normal drain and fill that the dealers do only changes less than a third of the fluid. The OEM Toyota WS fluid is not a full synthetic fluid but only a synthetic blend. Since this is something that is seldom done I wanted to go with a full synthetic fluid. There are some other good synthetic fluids but I chose to spend a few dollars more on Amsoil. It may or may not be worth it but I still have peace of mind knowing that I did the best I could. Hope this helps.

Your setup looks good- I put mine in to cool off the condenser to get colder A/C air when driving slow, my ScanGuage hasn't really shown much difference for engine temp, but the A/C works really well.

Hit a deer entering Carlsbad NM, which broke some tabs on the front lower fender, bent the drivers side wheel. Got a new wheel, upgraded tires to a 275, wife is 4’10 so didn’t do the 285.

    Just a safety FYI.....

The drivers side is not a tow point. It is not strong enough to handle that type of force. It is a vehicle tie-down point. It is used for securing the vehicle during shipping.

It would probably work for light duty towing if you needed to be pulled on a paved roadway. Using it as a rescue or recovery point when stuck could cause structural damage to your vehicle. The passenger side is engineered as a tow / rescue / recovery point.

There are several discussions here on Tacoma World regarding this matter.

    Welcome................

Do they look cool sure. They do serve a purpose when used correctly that does not include acceptance from strangers. In this pic you can see how my tire is hitting the shock, Timbren Bump stop is on the frame and I have more to go on the shaft. Not everyone is desperate for attention.

Put another 25 miles early AM on the truck after yesterdays KDMAX Pro+XT tune and enjoying how it's settling in nicely! With a little luck I can make another run later today.
