There are still some dealers that sell at no markup. If you are anywhere near Colorado, I'd recommend Mountain States Toyota. No handling fee, no add ons. I just had to wait for an allocated truck to come in.
I did visit their parts department and spent a good pile of money for the things I wanted and I'm sure they made some good money there. They also made another fan, of which there are many in this area.

I might pay for extras, and I'd even pay a bit more for convenience. But there is difference between paying for value and getting screwed.

damn, my mom had a beetle about 15 years ago and it came with a cheapo guitar so you could plug it in. Only tried it once.

Those sites claim theirs is different, better, whatever... but I'm not buying it. Certainly costs a heck of a lot more.

Whatever's on our windshield is still there. Was looking at it driving to the dentist this morning. It's just annoying whatever it is.

The worst part is they tell you to pound sand if you don't want to pay for it... because someone else will pay for it.

Mountain States was great to work with. I ended up going to Stevenson Toyota East because they had the 6’ bed that I wanted. What a great experience, minus the 8 week wait for it to be built/delivered. I signed the vehicle spec sheet w/ what I was to pay when it arrived. When it arrived I paid $500 less than msrp and it came with color matched bumper instead of the chrome bumper I thought I was getting. 10/10. Will go back there for my 2026 4th gen for sure!

First, nevermind how dirty my interior is. I know it needs cleaning.... Anyway, I have a coworker who does 3D scanning/printing, and I had asked him if he thought he could make me a custom trim piece for the cup holder in my center console if I gave him the OE part. It's a bit crude to see up close, but he was able to create this for me, and it fits dang near perfectly. I could probably sand on it a bit to smooth it out, but I don't mond it too much. I've asked him to make another one that I'll try to refine a bit more, but otherwise, I'm pretty impressed with this.

Its not just Toyota. I bought my wife a new SUV last year and every manufacturer was pulling this crap. Usually to the tune of 6-8 thousand extra for crap that is useless. Door edge guards and door cup protectors for $800.... Same thing at Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, Honda. I couldn't get a place to give me even MSRP (at least not in NJ). I finally settled in a Mitsubishi Outlander at MSRP and thought I got a deal..... Every dealership had multiple "dealer installed packages" and were robbing people for them.... It's not just Toyota... It's the new posture for all dealerships

I used to think the Honda dealer here was the worst, adding 3k on every car, new or used. My thoughts were they were doing it because they could get away with it, and Honda customers are pretty loyal to the brand. Taking advantage of that brand loyalty rubs me the wrong way, and now Toyota is doing it more than they are.... Now though it is just every dealer everywhere, you can't even buy a vehicle for MSRP unless its something they have a lot of. Hopefully my new truck will serve me well, and I won't have to replace it before Im too old to drive or in a wheelchair.

Word. I'm hoping to get the same longevity. I've had plenty of new cars. Now consumers are being painted into a corner with them between options they don't want/need and electric being forced down our throat

This is 100% true. I did this at the Hyundai dealership and they basically told me to hit the bricks because there are "plenty of consumers willing to pay for these features" and "we won't have any problem selling these vehicles". It burned me up

When we bought my wife’s 4runner, the fabric protection and windshield protection were on the sticker. I told them I didn’t want them, they said they were already applied to the car. I said I didn’t want them. They took the price off the vehicle and made us sign saying it was applied but we refused the warranty by not paying. Probably a scam in my opinion…but scotch guard or a similar product for the interior and buy some rain x for the glass

Dealers went through a period of having few to no cars to sell and are trying to recoup their losses now that the supply chain is starting to free up. They are in the catbird seat at the moment, especially with vehicles that are still in high demand and short supply. Folks are still desperate to get something, anything and if the right combination comes along they'll pay anything to get it. It's a free market, but it's a seller's market at the moment.

It's similar to contractors being overwhelmed with business recently, even ones that are marginal at their craft at best. You're lucky to get a return phone call.

Thing of it is, the pendulum will swing back. It always has and it always will. The day will come when those fat and happy dealers and contractors and the like will be begging for business. The ones that did the right thing, treated customers and potential customers well, even if only returning a phone call or email to say they're just too busy when times were good for them, will get the business. The rest will fail when we're able to tell them to go pound sand. That day will come. Hang in there!
