1983 restoration in progress, major mods so far new 6" lift and 35" Mickey Thompsons.
That's all you have to do. Once new chip is installed, power on head unit, it'll do all the upgrading itself, nothing else for you to do. Easy peasy!!

Did you manage to retain your factory mic? Did it improve the camera quality when backing up?

No, I installed the Enfig mic in the overhead console.

    https://shop.enfigcarstereo.com/product/enfig-mic-toy1/

I think because the resolution of the Alpine screen (720p) is higher than the cameras (I’d guess 480p, or lower) the resulting on-screen image is scaled and doesn’t look very sharp.

I was in the same boat. The sound deadening and speaker upgrades are a must. I went with what kicker has and crutchfield adapters. The tweeters are Subaru don’t sell them short they are a vast improvement

Took the Taco out camping with the kiddo with his troop of Cub Scouts. Buddy of mine and I parked together as it should be.

That’s the route I took as well, only deadened the doors front and back, and didn’t have enough to do the cab rear or bottom. The rest for me was user friendly stuff, and lessons learned from my 88, and 2002 Tacoma’s. Undercoating, and suspension upgrade (both previous models were very soft in the rear, and worsened over time), lighting upgrades here in deer country, seat covers for the dogs, rear bed mat, and bed cargo retaining rack that mounts on the sliders. Although I take care of it, it’s used as a truck in the country.

I was tired of laying down old sheets and towels for my little dog when I took her for a walk, so I got this seat cover. It looks easy to keep clean.

RCI rock sliders engine/trans/transfer case, differential and A-arm skids. ARB twin-compressor, rear air locker. Bilstein 6112/5160 with Icon RXT Leaf Packs. UpTop Overland Bedrack.
After a few days of double and triple checking everything was tight for my coilovers, swaybar, endlinks, UCAs, LCAs, front differential mounts etc, I finally fixed a “popping” noise in my front end that would happen during low speed and when front end would articulate. Ended up being my RCI engine skid which is aluminum was rubbing on my chassis at a mounting point just in front of the transmission skid plate and after spacing the engine/transmission skid plate with a couple of grade 8 washers, it’s gone. I only figured this out after reading a bunch of posts on this forum and one in particular from @Rjparnow about his RCI skid plate doing something similar in a post from 2020.

Did my first personal oil change on this truck (previous service done by dealership)
What a PITA vs my 2nd Gen. Had to drop my skid plate as the service door hardware has corroded. Guess that’s what I get for buying the AMAZON TRD knockoff.
