I put the kickers in my truck and I’m a little disappointed with them. They do sound much better than the oem ones, but they’re not as good as the JBL’s that I put in my other pickup and they cost about the same.

How about the idea of installing an amp to help out the stock head unit. I have the OEM plus speaker system with an amp for the woofer and ds18s in the dash and kickers in the doors. Think that would help?

Be careful. You can spend a lot of money on mods with those too. We have 5. Myself, the little lady and 2 granddaughters have a blast riding around our property.

i'm not really a peerless whore, just always ended up naturally gravitating towards peerless or dayton after researching all the other options-- they just tend to tick most of the boxes in products that meet my needs--at least they did until they don't sell to consumers any more(changed in 2021-22)...

those are really cool! i love weird speaker designs, and am always on the lookout for something that was designed well outside the norm.

there was a new-age company that developed a similar tech in the last few years, basically a push/push box design using a small opposing 2-3" speakers, but with offset voice coils so the entire 'box' was only 0.5" thick. it also resulted in zero vibration. they were bought out shortly after debut by one of the companies like sonos or similar that tend to specialize in small compact speakers, and i haven't heard much about the tech ever since-- i had hoped to get my hands on a few for my own projects...

the dayton res-core is another one, it doesn't model all that well individually (seems most designs need at least 3+ pairs for decent low range), but is an extremely unique design

i ran the dayton HAR as a tweeter in my last truck just for the different appearance.

Some improvement over stock, but it's hard to quantify. I used the factory EQ to increase the low freq output and with the volume set at 40, there's a solid thump from instruments like kick drums and such. As others have said, you need to upgrade the head unit and put an amp inline in order to get the most out of this upgrade. The Kickers can handle 150 watts RMS and testing has proved that the factory head unit can only offer about 5 to 7 watts. But, for now, this is a good temporarily-permanent solution. I'm sure I'll have a local audio shop do a full custom setup this summer.

it does help, many people install a kicker key 4 channel amp in the space inside the dash-- there's a ton of documentation in the audio section on plug-n-play harnesses to make it all work and be reversible. some guys are even powering it off the radio power, but i don't feel comfortable recommending that method to anyone really-- always best to give aftermarket devices their own fused power from the battery so as to not over-draw the factory equipment. also, if something goes wrong with the aftermarket gear, it definitely doesn't damage the factory gear, so you can at least get home...
