Some people mount it on Tacoma‘s back compartment in the bed. I have seen them mounted behind the passenger rear seat, under a seat or in the engine bay
They also have a portable hand held kit which could move to a difft vehicle
That’s also probably easier to steal when parked at a trailhead!
I have a fuse block, a circuit breaker and wiring for speakers/amp on my drivers side engine bay so I used a mount for the passengers side engine bay

I’m guessing this is a matter of personal preference
I have seen pros and cons to all of these different locations
I already have a viair for use between vehicles but wanted it quickly accessible to use and less visible for theft. The ip67 rating makes me more comfortable about the engine bay mount
Mine will also have a dash mounted power switch

I see most people put it in the engine bay even without the upgrade ip level… what’s viair?

I wish they would jump through the hoops to get them a CARB exemption. They did update the website to say they are not only illegal in CA but possibly federally so maybe they are getting some pressure to do proper testing......

It’s a pricey item. I grew tired of strapping down fuel cans, spills, closed stations in Utah desert etc. I’d imagine cost will vary by truck. Don’t want this to turn into a thread about how others would rather carry cans vs do this mod $$$!
The compressor is also not cheap! Buy once cry once is my motto. I plan on having this truck a long time.

Honestly our engine bays already keep most of the dust and moisture out. The bigger issue there is heat. The extra protection is very good news for installing places like in the bedsides though.

The heat would be my main concern as well.
