OK so I got these tires on Sept 12 of 03. This is what the siping looked like
upload_2025-8-30_18-18-14.jpgAnd this is what the siping looks like now
upload_2025-8-30_18-18-41.jpgThe main difference I see is in the middle tread blocks half the length of the siping is gone. Hence the breaking loose of the rears when stomping it. Maybe I’m just being paranoid but I like good rubber and when I lose siping I start looking for new tires

What air pressure you running? This makes me think the tires may be slightly overinflated as there is more wear in the center.

Got my Taco Krown Rustproofed again, yesterday. First time I noticed they actually removed the taillights, and got their spray wand way in deep in there. Man they went to town. Parked it on my street all day, then put tarps down in the garage for it's overnight sleep! Still dripping like an ol' whore...

It reminds me why my paint looks so good after 8 harsh winters, and hot summers. :crapstorm:

Go to a tire retread shop, get the tires professionally re-siped.

If that’s your wear marker, then you are like 2 mm from a solid yes, if you live where there’s not a lot of snow you would probably be OK for a hot minute. I’m the same as you. I’ll change them before I have to worry. Labor Day sales are the best time to buy tires

You need to buy a cheap tread depth gauge and measure the tread across the width of the tread it should be equal cross the tread.. It looks like they may be over inflated a tad... Although the sipes are for overall traction, they are primarily for wet weather (rain snow) traction... Tires in general (or did a few ears ago) will loose about 30-40% of their wet weather traction at 1/2 tread...

I understand what you are saying, but we asked about it at a meeting, yes someone simply forgot to roll the year forward, it only affected a small batch of one tire, again the FR710's and NO other tires made in the company... I retired from said company after 17 years, so I saw wayyyy more tires than I care to think about... lol
And by the way, I had to write down and or enter thousands up on thousands of DOT number in that time frame, not to mention co-workers and friends, we only saw this once, and not many even saw it due to the low volume made... I only saw 2 with that DOT...

Changing your transmission fluid on these ”sealed” transmissions is totally fun isn’t it?

Don't forget the rubber compound heat cycles out, too. I'm a big fan of replacing tires for aging out rather than wearing out. Some of these high treadwear passenger car joints never wear down, but definitely age out.

No, the treadwear indicators are between the the tread lugs in the deep groves running around the tire, they are 2/32 per DOT standard which is where DOT says tires are unsafe...

Running 30 psi cold. It’s not overinflated. And those little blocks inside the gap I think are for noise deadening

I know most everyone hates the dipstickless ("sealed") automatic transmissions/transaxles, but it is a much better design as most people don't know anything about vehicles, they put oil in the master cylinder, put the wrong oil in vehicles, wrong ATF in the trans and not to mention the wrong amount (over filling them) and do damage to said parts... A dipstickless trans is the most accurate way to fill a trans when/if done correctly, it has the exact amount of ATF needed/required..
Many (cough cough) manufactures are and have been for years using dipstickless engines for the oil level... Most people don't even realize on most, not all (think older Hondas) require the engine to be running in order to properly check an automatic trans fluid level...

As someone that has pro built transmissions before, I had rather the average customer not be able to mess with the trans while under warranty... I've seen some stupid stuff done by people that had no business ever opening the hood..... lol

Trans fluid expands at a much higher rate than other vehicles fluids, that is why you have to have it at a certain temp frame in order to check the ATF fluid level...

Is it a bit of a PITA? Yes!!! Is it a better/safer design? Yes...

Not much on the Taco yesterday, new air and cabin air filters. Hopefully get to the oil change today.
Most of Saturday was spent on my wife's Accord, air filters and spark plugs, super easy. The big time suck was wrestling some Wet Okole seat covers on the front seats. The back seats, which will have to come out, will probably be a Monday project.

I'm sorry, I don't think I follow. Are you asking if the cap follows the angle of the cab to the roof?

I think he might mean the gap between the cap and the cab :notsure:
