and switching from duratracks to an actual road tire helps.

i get about 2-3l/100Km better with the stock goodyears than i do with my BFG KO2s.

Welcome to TW! You’re mileage should improve after your first 5K miles or so. Right now the ECT (transmission) is basically learning your driving habits; hence the constant searching for gears.

Hm, mine is at 36k miles and still kind of a pain with searching for gears. I wonder if that might be more related to the prior owner. Does it continuously adapt?

That could be the case; especially at that kind of mileage. Wonder if it could “reset” somehow. :spy:

We've tested hundreds of the cheapos, but stick to those we can stand behind.

I was looking at this one, but it states this won't fit my 2017 Tacoma. Do you have a link to the ones you used ( I know you got it as a gift, but asking anyway).

We drive a 200 mile round trip to our cabin almost every weekend. So far my best mpg for that trip was the first one @23.2 mpg. I have noticed everything did seem smoother overall after I hit the 2000 mile mark.

Can't you reset the ECT by disconnecting the battery?

Some suggest disconnecting the battery will reset ECU shift learning, but in reality it needs to be done via Techstream and it's probably best to have the dealer do this as it "might" affect warranty. I believe the learning is a constant thing so if your driving habits change drastically such as maybe you move from close to sea level with flat roads to 5000 ft and lots of hills, the ecu will eventually adapt.

They will if they are E rated. I lost 2-3 mpg switching to 255/85r16 Cooper STT Maxxs from stock. I've been happy with them though.

disconnecting the car battery and waiting some time is apparently one method of doing it or so.
But from what i heard and read, it tries to re-learn a little quicker to make up for what it lost.

how true that is, i'm not sure. but i did have to pull the battery and the car did go through a re-learn period. don't recall how long it took though
