I just got mine delivered. There is small amount of surface rust, but not as much as the one you got.

It might be moisture problem. Did you see the moisture absorber packet in the package? If not, that's why. They should put one or two in the package and place on the shelves waiting to be shipped out.

Some WD40 saturated 0000 steel wool should clean that up no problem.

I'd use steel wool and just a drop of 3 in 1 or similar oil.

Either will work as well as PB Blaster or just about any other penetrating oil in conjunction with the 0000 steel wool.

I noticed mine did not come with a front bed rail.. Are they just removing them ? Did the dealer provide or was the cost on you?

It is now an accessory item, anything to squeeze another dollar ftom you. It's actually good business on their part.

Thank you for the update.. I just tapped out an email to the dealer asking the same question. At least there are still the front two tie down points...

Apparently Toyota stopped adding including the front bed rail around 2016, but the bolts are still there. Easy install.

But now they get to sell you the two rear tie downs that used to be standard equipment. All about the bottom line.

This got me wondering how steel wool is made.

For anyone following this, hopefully, @Mr.Pink Taco will give us an update on his experience, but I personally reached out to John at Overland Equipped to voice my concerns...

He asked that I let everyone know that, "he's aware and working up a solution .. customers should check to make sure the bracket doesn't touch the wiring before fully tightening down the bracket .. more action will be taken"

FYI. Should you decide to add the accessory rail it's recommended that you loosen by hand and then back out the rest of the way if using a drill/driver. Failure to break free by hand could result in snapping off the head of the torx screw. It's happened.

I watch that show all the time. Interesting how they are made. Such as so tiny stuff and big stuff.
