In the south no one has central heat, houses have pretty much glorified space heaters.
Imagine how much energy it would take to keep your house warm with just 2 electric space heaters and no furnace.
I lived in Texas and our house only had space heaters in the bathrooms other than that if it got cold we had a fireplace to try to heat a 3000 sqft house.

It's the same as when it gets insanely hot in the north, the power grid can't handle having everyone running their AC's nonstop.
Fortunately everywhere other than Texas we can get extra power pumped in from other cities to keep from getting blackouts.

I don't think you are starting anything ... And, I have no issue with the point you raise at all.

But, yes, I do realize that it takes steel (and a lot of other things) to make turbines. That has no impact on the need for us to be a leader in next generation energy technology. And, I also think it is not correct to say that everyone loves green but never thinks about where it comes from. I think a lot of people who like green technology think about where it comes from.

As I mentioned, I am an all the above energy option person until we can get to a green energy policy that makes business, consumer and technology sense.

But ... that is a whole other discussion ... and not appropriate for this forum, of course.

What is appropriate for this forum, however, is to wish all of our friends in Texas the best during this trying time. Hope it warms up for y'all. Be safe ... and get to a parking lot and do as many Tacoma doughnuts as you can while it lasts -- with the heater on.

Supposed to get up to mid-30's on Friday for a couple hours, then 40's-50's over the weekend. Back into the 60's by next week.

We've been lucky in that we only had the cold line into our kitchen sink freeze (still hot hot water there to wash dishes), and our water never got shut off (one of the local treatment facilities kept losing power) and we didn't lose power. Others in my neighborhood weren't as lucky.

So next weekend it should start to thaw ... that is good. One thing that will be at least positive from this is you should get some good water runoff so that might help your drought and water tables. I have friends in Austin who are in bad shape ... they got hit pretty hard.

We are supposed to get hit with an ice storm here in NY ... but no big deal ... it will be our fourth one this winter ... :)

Edit: Anyone from the Great White North. Just move along. The summary is lots of snow in places where people are not used to seeing lots of snow. Average winter day in Calgary. :)

No problem. After I bought the then new 16 Taco I bought a 2013 Escape for my daily. My cheap Escape has everything standard that the Taco did not have such as spotter mirrors (like these), heated leather seats, power memory seats, killer SONY sound system, puddle pod lights, dual zone climate control, chrome wheels, touch door entry on both front outside door handles, factory remote start with climate settings, interior door handle bowl lights, factory tow package and hitch, etc, etc. It is funny to me that people are all amazed that these mods are available for the Taco when all you need to do is buy a cheap Ford Escape. I guess that is why I only drove the Taco 1,000 miles last year and drive the Escape every day. It may be that the turbo 4 cylinder is much more powerful on the road than the 3.5 snoozer in the Taco.

So what does the taco get used for? Or is just the play toy?

@mrproduxn Maybe this is why a cheap Ford Escape is not in their radar? :notsure:

Yeah the Tacoma isn’t a luxury vehicle. I sold my Yukon Denali and bought the taco. But honestly I have so far had more smiles per gallon with my Tacoma. The Yukon was a beast it rode better drove better had all the bells and whistles and got as good or better fuel mileage. But I don’t worry every time I park that someone will ding the doors or be concerned about driving off-road. I just don’t miss the Yukon. Farewell GM...
One exception when I get the kids raised my wife will get a new corvette. Of course I will drive it on occasion.

Keeps the driveway clear of acid rain mostly. Drove it 4,400 miles in the last 26 months. Good to use when heavy rain floods the streets (clearance). It looks good outside my den door parked in the back yard. Use it for hauling stuff 3-4 times a year. Love the truck (and nobody has made a reasonable offer to buy it). Wish I never sold the 2008 Taco (with 60k miles) after buying the new 2016. And, for the record, my wife bought a new 16 Escape 3 months before I bought a new 16 Tacoma. Tacoma has been in the shop, in the 1st 10k miles, for 2 transmission recalls, differential housing recall, body bushing repair, tire sensor repairs, cluster repair/replacement, window weather strip replacement and radio repair. Not to mention 2 busted Chinese windshields. The 16 Escape, as well as my 13 Escape, have not been in the shop for any recalls (13 moonroof repaired by original owner). Tacoma is for looks. The Fords are for dependable daily driving and awesome gas mileage. Have considered a 4runner, another 2nd gen Taco or FJ Cruiser. Something with the good 4.0 engine. Owned the Taco 5 years and considered selling it for 3 years.

I added some Fox air bumps. Just cut into the frame bump stop plate and welded in the cans. 20210217_114647.jpg 20210217_120323.jpg 20210217_122921.jpg 20210217_143450.jpg
