Simple question: why choose a 255/80R17 tire instead of a 285/70R17?

The 255/80R17 is slightly taller (~33.1") than the 285/70R17 (~32.7").
Is that the reason why you went with that option?

255 is is 10.04 wide, 265 is 10.43, and the 285 is 11.22 wide. Maybe so the spare doesn't hang down so low?

Interesting. I have never seen the off road OEM rims in all black like that.

    No. You should get PPF.

Can't tell from the angle, but it looks like you don't have mudguards. Get the OEM wide Canada mudguards, PK389-35R50-P1, ASAP. Additional PPF on the rear fenders (above the skimpy factory strip) is a good idea too.

They come from the factory on the TRD pre-runners.
Basically the same wheel that comes on the off-road but all Black.

    Example:
Top Right from the Tacoma brochure.

Recently posted about mine (#2764 in this thread) and also did a more detailed write-up w/ additional pics in the "tonneau" category.

I went with the 255 because I like pizza cutters. 285 is getting into brodozer territory. At 315 they grant you citizenship.

Paint protection film. It’s pretty neat. They have the kind that’s also self healing if you get scratches. It’s by 3M, etc… it’s a good investment if you don’t wanna destroy your paint job. It’s like 4-5k but it lasts about 7-10 years depending how you take care of it
