What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I've had the unlimited alignment deal from Firestone for 4 years but have only used it maybe 4 times, they never do a good job and won't customize the numbers. So I go to another shop that works almost exclusively on Toyota 4x4s and does alignments, they do a great job. It's $130 there but worth it.

 

I'm pretty sure those start out at +2° of Caster. Point that out to them. Right now you are set at negative caster at the LCA. 3°+ should be easily attainable.

 

I feel very fortunate to have developed a good relationship with the Firestone I go to. There is a great tech there that is easy to talk to, listens and does what I ask for. I am always hopeful that he is still there the next time I need him.

I think I bought my "lifetime" alignment from them in '09 or '10 and have used it at least 20 times.

Ah, good point. The computer probably told the guy to hit 1.5 degrees of caster, so he had to dial out all the +2 from the Icons. I bet the rear cams are all the way in.

Sounds like some one didnt take care of a 4l60e and beat the fuck out of it!. Good fluid good coolers and dont be stupid it'll last just fine.

 

Fluid coolers won't save the output shaft, fine if you don't make any power or have a transfer case though. Rather not have to baby it and just have a better trans, the 4L80 is cheap too and even without bulletproofing has a far lesser chance of hard parts breaking under power.

 

Sounds like its time to start diying your alignments in here. For the cost some of you mentioned you can buy the tools to do it yourself. It's really not difficult.

I gotta get back out there and meet up with y'all again. Dad life is throwing a big wrench in the works though.

 

I've only been using a tape measure to measure from an adjacent tread block to get toe and a small digital level with a straight edge on the wheel to get camber. Not ideal and it can be a bit frustrating trying to keep the tape in place but it works enough for me. I did just make a toe and camber tool I hope to get cut soon. I don't worry much about castor because it's always close enough when I've checked. Presumably because I have my cams maxed.
