What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Alcan uses engery suspension bushings. Just order a 1st gen leaf spring bushing set and you should be good to go.

 

I’ll call them tomorrow and see what hey they want for a set.

Yeah, shipping can be the downside, but in this case, the pricepoint differences for the parts (Amazon $205, McGeorge $150) is significant enough to make it work.

 

Yeah, those are them. The smaller diameter bushing is for the shackle to frame pivot, which wear the quickest out of any of those in my experience, so a good thing to replace at the same time.

 

Wire wheeling the frame. What a pain! Fuel tank and axle will come out tomorrow to get the rest of it. My hands are nice and tingley from the wire wheel.

 

What kind of lifetime are people getting out of leaf spring poly bushings anyways?

When I took out my leafs to put in an AAL, the fronts looks pretty haggered on the outer faces, but the rears seemed in good shape for ~34k

 

Little late now but you should look up DIY sand blasters. I plan on making one when I have to do extensive frame work/welding

 

I would love to blast the frame. I bought a sand blaster for this project but have since moved to where I don’t have a large enough air compressor to push it. Also looked into pressure washer blasters, but I don’t think my pump will run one effectively. Using the tools I didn’t have to spend money on.

 

The poly bushings on my SPC UCAs lasted about 4 years/50k miles. The Spec Ride poly bushings, not the new x-axis ones. Although I probably should have replaced them sooner.

Could tell they were bad due to play in the arm, after pulling them out the sleeves were pitted and bushings sort of wallowed out a bit. They were also pretty noisy, but not the usually poly squeak noisy...more like a 100 year old barn door opening kind of noisy.

Looking at them when installed though you wouldn't have been able to tell by the outer lip of the bushing, that looked fine. Inside they were all jacked up though.

Thats rough, I'm kinda in the same boat tool wise right now. I spent the better part of the day yesterday grinding and wire wheeling the cam tab mounts and my spindles for gussets. Mostly because my battery grinder only lasts 5 minutes a charge. Definitely saving up for new tools soon as the mods get bigger.

 

Will an 03-04 auto work in an 01? I know it’ll bolt up but I also know there was some changes to the electronics or something

 

hm, I'm not aware of any changes on the transmission side of things. I don't think you have anything to worry about but maybe someone will know something more detailed.
