Nah it's from the original thread of discussion on IFS offroading. But yeah my stub was basically stuck in the diff similarly.

Lol that's for the set. And I don't plan on committing to RCV's until I go LT.

 

The problem with SAS is the time needed to do it right. Even with a 4WU kit it's a ton of time to do it, and you are looking at 3-4k for the kit and not even counting all the nickle and dime stuff like steering box, axle, etc.

My hope is to ride out IFS for as long as I can and minimize anymore downtime on my build. I've gone far too long working on projects that take too long and keep me from enjoying the truck.

 

Still have to evaluate expenses when 2k for CV's seems like a reasonable price

 

I also picked up an FJ80 with front and rear lockers for $300 more than the price of those CV's.

 

That's a damn good find. Around here I see a front axle only going for 1k+

To be fair, it'd be the last set of CVs you'd ever buy.













But you better have a spare diff for when it breaks instead...because it will well before the CVs do.




Which is why I'd run OEMs all day. Rather replace that then a diff. Plus for those going LT the Tundra CVs are a step or two up from the tacoma CVs anyways.

 

If you have a junkyard around I'd check there or car-part.com

May want to do a group buy if you get one made. Might help offset the cost.


@Blackdawg what's different with the tundra CVs other than length. I always assumed the joints were the same.

 

They use two birfeilds. The inner and outer. Instead of just the outer with a tulip on the inner.

 

Can that be swapped to a taco shaft?

$200 for that is a major steal and it looks fantastic!

 

Tried to replace my rear wheel bearing today, thought a cast floor flange would work, spoiler it did not. So trying to figure that out now. Always fun times around here
