I've seen mention of some 4.30 e-locker axles on other forums, but they seem to be rare. I think that would have been a special-order combo, as 4.30 gears were (as far as I know) only used in Tacomas with the 2.7L and e-lockers were mostly installed in 3.4L trucks.

You'll probably have better luck finding a 4.30 locked 3rd member from a 4Runner and swapping it into a Tacoma axle, or just welding new mounts onto the 4Runner axle.

    I think every TRD e-locked 3.4l Tacoma I've seen has been 4.10s

    Yea I figured as much.
Pretty sure the 4.30 ratios are in the 8.4 housing versus the 8 though. So not sure about being able to swap a t4r third member into an 8.4 rear end.
I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm wrong though.

I thought an e-locked 4Runner would be an 8", just like an e-locked Tacoma?

I am talking about swapping the 4Runner 3rd into an 8"/locker Tacoma axle--not into an 8.4"/open axle.

Why? Just to get the 4.30 gears instead of 4.10? You will hardly notice any difference.

Sorry should have clarified. Yea I know.
Have a buddy who was looking to possibly install an elocker into his 8.4 4.30 rear, but I didn't know if a third member like that existed on other trims/specs.

All Tacoma TRD off-road e lockers were 4.10.

Only 4 bangers came with 4.30 and 4.56 from factory depending on the tranny.

Technically the 4runner diff is different. But the elcokers are compatible.

Getting an elocker into an 8.4 housing is possible but requires modifications to the diff housing to do so. It is not a plug n play option.

You’re in for a lot of work to modify an 8.4 housing for an e locker, probably be easier to get the entire 4runner axle and cut the link brackets off and weld spring perches on.

I didn't do anything to it today, but a fellow motorist decided he wanted to play peek a boo with my rear diff.

Seems to be pretty good. It’s a pretty common setup if you look through the crawl box thread.

I think the best you could hope for from a junkyard is a Tundra 3rd member with an LSD. You'd be pretty lucky to actually find one, but I researched this a while back... '00-'06 4wd v6 regular and access cab Tundras had 4.30 gears, and some had a factory-installed (Eaton) or dealer-installed (Kazuma) LSDs. The 3rd member supposedly swaps neatly into Tacoma 8.4" axles.

Gotcha. Yea I couldn't remember if it was the other way around or not.
I have seen some folks modify the housing to get it in there, but yea I would rather just weld on perches and stuff than deal with that.

Didn't know the 1g tundras had that ratio as well. But yea I have a buddy that had a 1g tundra with an "auto LSD" rear. Or at least that's what the button on his dash was. Which I think was just using ABS to help with wheel spin or something like that? I forget. Been a while since I researched it.

Yep, "Auto LSD" is a simulated LSD: What I was talking about is a true, clutch-type LSD. It's always working and wouldn't have a button on the dash.
