Correct im on manual hubs. I knew 2nd gen 4wds needed a CV to keep the wheel bearing together but I assumed ADD hubs were the same as mine in that aspect.

OK. One question, how did you get the wheel end of the CV apart? Or did you just cut the shaft off?

Cut the shaft as close to the bearing cage as possible. You can kinda see the shaft a little bit in the first pic I sent.

One of the first things I did after buying this truck was replace both blown CV's (oem green sticker) and threw them straight in the trash, I've kicked myself multiple times for not saving at least one of them for a spare. Hell I even gave myself a black eye taking one of them out the day before my wedding. Luckily we had a great photographer who worked her voodoo magic and made it disappear in all the pictures.

With 315,000 miles on them I just figured they had served their purpose. I get tired of hanging on to things "just in case" and usually prefer the open space

well it only cost $20 a CV to rebuild them..and the OEM ones don't bind as fast. They are worth holding on to for sure. But too little too late i know.

I've done a mod or two
I found my notes, I bought both ends and spliced em together.

Cut the grey one off this harness (it's what I had since I was gonna GM alt swap originally)...
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/192729553623

And splice it to this one, I have the diagrams of which pins go where somewhere, I'll try and dig em up.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/153930348261

Alternatively, I'll make ya one if you want.

Not sure where you've been lately, but it costs significantly more than $20 each axle.

Yeah, McGeorge is cheaper but when you add shipping (and Tax maybe), it's not.

OK, got it done. I had an old parts store CV that pulled off my truck a few years ago because it had torn a boot. I took it apart to see if it was OEM, and if it was I was going to reboot it. It was not, but for some reason I didn't throw it away. Lucky that.

Damn! I feel your pain. I have a sunroof, and when I got my truck the PO had a pile of old floor mats and this one odd cover I couldn’t figure out what it was…. So I threw it out think it was just random junk this guy had in the bed of the truck.. 2 months later in the summer I realized it was the sunroof cover…. That is pure 1st gen gold sitting somewhere in a landfill.. :anonymous:

Cutoff wheel on an angle grinder. I'll give the part I cut off to a friend that makes knives. Probably good knife steel. I know he made some good ones out of my sway bar, and old leaf springs.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

    I used this

    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/vht-sp670

it's holding up very well. Went on easy. Dry time was good. I am very happy with it. So much so I used the satin version to paint the rebuilt RTT rack and bed platform I just recently finished.

Something is not right. I took it for a test drive and every once and a while I hear grinding noise. Doesn't do it all the time, and I never got above 20 mph. I jacked up and spun both front wheels, one at a time, and couldn't reproduce the noise.
