Good time to paint the valve covers if you’re into that!

I’m refraining for the moment. Want to make sure the darn thing runs before I do to much to it. I might end up painting my old valve covers and swapping them over on down the road when boost gets involved.

I installed a JDM engine in mine last summer/fall and it's been great. I'm assuming you had the headers already and they didn't come with the engine? They look good!

Wow that’s a unicorn! I wasn’t able to find one so I used epoxy but it feel down and then I used body shop panel bond and now I would have to cut it off if I want to remove it. So if anyone doing the mod and not getting it to hold panel bond is the trick!

glad to hear you’re liking your JDM. It’s nice to hear about a good experience because right now I’m anxious about it. All signs point to it being in superior condition over current 5vz. And you’re correct, those headers didn’t come with. I have them on because I’m mocking up an elbow to adapt the 2 cat headers to my single cat system. I’ll also be replacing the countershaft bearing while I have my transmission out… it really doesn’t pay off trying to make a 23 year old truck new again :annoyed:

I have a leftover height adjustment bolt for a wood framed bed glued to the roof with 5min epoxy and it's held strong for over a year but It did pop off twice before I took some rough sand paper to the mating surfaces

I dunno... with the way prices for new vehicles are now days, i think it's worth it. The time and effort required is definitely a big undertaking, but right now it's worth it financially. My truck was down for about 3/4 of a year while i planned, acquired part, and rebuilt it. I pulled the auto trans and had a shop rebuild it for me at the same time I did the engine. The trans was 12 or $1300, the engine was $1800 at the time of purchase iirc; also made some other upgrades too but the $3100 spent getting it close to new again was worth it. No monthly payment, but it is a gas guzzler with a SC on it.

Is it a bad idea for my trans cooler to be mounted that it’s touching resting up against the ax condenser?

You are right, big picture, they’re a good investment, and as @Badknees mentioned, they don’t make them anymore.

Thanks! I Have some stainless tubing pie cuts on their way and was able to source some flanges from a local exhaust shop, apparently they were for a ford Ranger, but seems like a generic pattern. Welding up an elbow is probably the last thing that’ll happen on this swap since I really do need the engine mounted in the bay to see how things line up. But hey, better to get stuff ordered before needing it.

Got my Kings but one of the top hats is flipped . the valve would be pointed towards engine and top hat mounting holes on the wrong side. Obviously i want the branding to be towards the outside haha.

Is it just a matter of removing the allen screw and flipping it back?

You could, but then how much will you need to rotate it to line up the coilbucket bolts? I know the 4R has a different orientation on those.

Another piece falls into place.... won't have time to go over it until the weekend but stoked the part hunt is coming to a close. Still out there to be found, an A340F, front half of the drive shaft (yeah, I know - just cut my existing one).

Picked up a hard ARE tonneau cover that's a different color than my truck. I am debating of raptor liner in black or have it professionally repainted

Not much i would think. its the mounting top hats that weren't installed correctly. damnit lol

Notice the top hat mounting holes.

Left, correct orientation. Right, pressure valve in correct position but the bolt holes aren't.
    Screen Shot 2022-04-26 at 4.04.08 PM.jpg

Left, Correct orientation. Right, pressure valve pointed towards rear.
    Screen Shot 2022-04-26 at 4.04.02 PM.jpg

This is how the bolt holes should look in its proper orientation.
    Screen Shot 2022-04-26 at 4.04.14 PM.jpg

But in its proper orientation the pressure valve would be pointed towards the rear. =(

    this sucks lol

Just unbolt it and flip it. Easy money. It'll be tight as balls probably but not hard to fix. Don't sweat it.
