Is it possible to do a leakdown test of an engine at the junkyard before buying, or is it pointless to try it on a cold engine?

You could do it, but it would take a lot of tearing down to get to that point. If you did a cold compression check and they came back all the same, you’d have a pretty good idea that things are okay

Just have to get to the spark plug holes the same as a compression test. Hard part would be getting shop air to the truck to do the leak down. I tested my engine cold - doesn't make a difference on these motors based on the numbers we're getting.

Keeping the valves closed is kinda tough with the cams still in, though

I've done it with a long handled ratchet and breaker bar on the crank bolt w/o any problem a couple times. The springs won't push harder than belts etc.

Is there an interval for injector replacement you guys suggest? Or just run em till you get a code? I’m about to have this thing for the past 100k and idk if or when the PO replaced them.

    Fuel Injectors?

I'm at 360,000 miles and have yet to have an issue with mine.

I'd send them out to be cleaned instead of replacing if they ever give me a problem.

my 95 has 482k and as far as i can tell the injectors are still original... toyota injector failure is rare.

I'm second owner it's a 2002, I bought it in 2004 with about 65,000 miles on it. Pretty much all the services, that were done on the truck, prior to me buying it, were done at the dealership I bought it from.

It was a "Toyota Certified" pre owned lease return. I know, for sure, these are the original injectors.

    Thinking the same thing.

However, something happened in my kid's 4runner, with one of the previous owners. We just discovered all the injectors are aftermarket, and the truck has less than 200k miles on it.

But no telling what the slap dicks that had it before my son did to it. We've replaced TONS of shit. It was in a wreck, and is salvage, been through 2 owners since the salvage (before we got it).

He bought it for super cheap, and so far we've been able to get it to the point of being pretty damn sound, considering.

90% of the cars i've done injectors on are due to diesel being put in.. i would not be surprised if someone did something in the past and they tossed that garbage in as a fix. most injector failures are caused by user error it seems.

I also wondered if this thing sat for a while and the gas maybe went bad at some point.

Not sure if that would screw up injectors... my first thought would be to drain the gas and run rough through a tank of premium, and fuel injector cleaner.

But, again, judging from some of the dumb shit we found, who knows what was done. All we know is everything we've done has brought it back. Still a few things here and there, but he's pretty much to the point of being able to do cool shit instead of just fixing shit lol

injectors can seize up from sitting with the ethanol in gas these days.. but they'll usually free up after running for a couple minutes

I do like that bobbed bed. Makes me want to consider it again. Might even allow me to park in the garage without disassembling the swingouts on the rear!

Remind me again why you cut out the amount you did, and not what it would take to get to a 5ft bed length?

I cut 10" out, 13" would have got me to short bed length.

Mainly because I think it looks better. :D But I also think there's diminishing return due to the frame. I cut 5" out of the frame and it's even with the back on my bed. Wouldn't really want to go too much more and get into the shackle support.
