@DashMaple DuraGo hubs are bad news. I’d get brand new OEM wheel bearings, hubs, and at least some OEM reman or used CVs.

I still need to get a couple hundred miles of 4WD use on my new parts to guarantee my issue is gone. So I haven’t updated my thread yet.

Edit: While I don’t think CVs are the cause I rebuilt a used OEM one on the side I was having issues even though it already had a CVJ axle (rebuilt OEM) installed. Just didn’t want to risk it.

Yeah thats the plan, ive reached out in a couple places hoping to source a complete spindle but if not ive already gotten with zippsub for a CV axle for sure, possibly a hub, and then i have a spare oem bearing.

Is your truck ABS? Worst case just go pull a spindle from a non-wrecked 3rd gen 4Runner in a yard. You have to be somewhat selective there because you don't want one that's bent.

I have spare Tacoma non-abs spindles but they would need new wheel bearings.

Ripped into the transfer case and found that there is noise coming from the rear bearing on the 'driven sprocket'. Front bearing is smooth and doesn't appear to have any issues but apparently its a "sorry, replace one - replace both" thing. Ordered and while I await delivery, guess I can paint the transfer case since I have it apart now. Everything else in there appears fine. Chain included, thank god. That damn chain runs about 530 dollars. The two bearings I'm replacing total at about 50.

If you needed a chain I have a spare with less than 100K on it. It wasn’t affected by the water that collected inside the front of the case. Glad you were able to identify the noise.

Been gone from Tacoma World for a minute, but I started working on my Tacoma again after not having any time this summer.

List of accomplished tasks this past month:
-painted the back half of frame after trail gear kits install and rust correction
    -Tundra brakes
-ABS delete and custom brake lines/manual proportioning valve
    -ES body mounts
-Wiring harness for twin compressor and air locker
    -Vinyl floor (mostly done)
-Patched the wiring harness for the tail lights that was ripped apart during the wreck

Next month, I’ll have to finish fitting the bed to the body. One of the bed mounts is tweaked and I’ll need to drill it out to square the bed. I’ll pull the bumper off and raptor it and run my stock bumper until that’s all dealt with.

Headed back for my work rotation tomorrow. Maybe a week worth of messing around with it before it’s ready to be back in the fleet of drivable vehicles. Will still have lots to do after it’s drivable, but I’ll be happy to get to use it again.

Just been reading and lurking ... have done a few things, but recently designed the mounting for my CO2 and propane tanks for the 4xInnovations swing out.

Both tanks mounted using PowerTank brackets:
    upload_2022-2-25_17-59-23.jpg

I was able to just drill and tap the swing out for the propane mount:
    upload_2022-2-25_18-0-33.jpg

I used 3/16" flat bar for the CO2 bracket:
    upload_2022-2-25_18-2-1.jpg

Now, just need to do some finish and prep work on the bumper and swing out.

Okay so less than 15k on the seals and bearing, my theory was a clogged breather blew the seal out (was in a heavy snow storm and figured water got in and froze it). Took it apart tonight and the seal came out with the axle. Pretty much confirms my suspicions I think? Thoughts?

Thats pretty ridiculous for a chain. When mine was slipping I just picked up one from a junkyard. Figured its pretty rare these have any issues.

Can you push it back in by hand? Maybe use some sleeve retainer on install.

    Stuff. Also things.
Are you thinking that with the plugged breather, the pressure change from running on the highway blew the whole seal out? That would be pretty crazy, but if the pressure is high enough and the seal isn’t compromised, it could be possible, I guess. I just remember it taking a good amount of force to drive that thing into the housing.

Like Ryan said, if it’s intact, you could use some Loctite 680 retaining compound next time. It’s pretty serious stuff.

Green loctite I reserve for pressure vessel threads and the oil filters of my enemies... that stuff is no joke.

Yeah, we use it for shit that we REALLY don’t want to move.

    Ever.

I’m honestly kind of shocked that the seal vacated the housing like that. Mine required more than a little persuasion to install.

I haven’t tried yet tbh, was focused on cleaning it all and strategizing my plan to make sure the bearing can be saved.

yeah same here. So much so that when I finished for the night I instinctively put the new seal in the freezer to make install easier when I go back at it sunday. so I am doubtful it was loosey goosey in there. :notsure:

Okay, I’ve been having problem with my passenger tail light, doesn’t work when plugged into the passenger side, does when plugged into the drivers side. @unstpible had to change some wiring on his taillights to get the 95-00 light to work on his 01-04. So I tried to copy what he did as seen below, but still not luck. Any ideas?
