    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Right on. When you mentioned smog I thought you may be in CA. I'm not familiar at all with Utah Laws, so I can't offer anything.

If you may possibly be trying to get it smogged in CA in the future. The only way to do it (legally) is to have it as a 2nd tank that is on a float to fill the main, stock, tank.

Gas tank shape, size, type, location, must be stock. All Evap lines must be stock, etc. Now... this does not say you may get something else past a Smog tech. But to be legal, you can't modify your existing stock tank location, size, etc.

I'm interested in something similar to use as a transfer tank.

was a write up on here about it. Seemed pretty straight forward. Doubt it'll pass smog though.

I recently installed a larger tranny cooler and changed the location to be closer to the fan to get more pull through it, wondering if any one else has had issues with this location. I think it’s creating a hot spot in the radiator and not letting the tranny fluid cool.

It had seemed to be working fine, but on the first really hot day/long drive (150 miles and 100 degrees) I took it on it was running hot almost immediately. Motor was between 200-210 it’s usually 190-195 and tranny jumped to 200 and fluctuated between 200-230. Hotter than it ever really has.

So I’m guess it has to be with the cooler location, just seems odd to make that big of a difference.

    that's where mine is.

Are you certain your thermostat is installed correctly? jiggle valve pointed down at 6 oclock?

When's the last time you flushed the coolant?

Mine runs around 185-190 and tranny fluid is like 150 on the highway.

Whats the routing of the tranny fluid? I have mine going to the external cooler bottom port, then top port to the radiator, then to tranny.

I have ahd it in a tough situation on Morrison Jeep trail and it was at 230 most the switchbacks. Took a LONG time to cool down once it's that hot. of course we couldn't go much faster than 15-20mph even off the switch backs and air movement is needed to really cool that stuff.

I don't think any shops in Utah will care if you swap the tank
It's not like it'll be inspected anyway

Are you running your AC since installing this Trans cooler vs before? Could be the condenser heat soaking your Trans cooler.

As stated above check thermostat position.
Also, how's your fan clutch looking, and fan clutch support bearing.

Or maybe air pocket in the cooler?
    Condition of coolant hoses, collapsing?
    Couple possibilities...

Same place I have mine, granted "slightly" bigger size, but no AC condenser.

Had a local glass company come to my work and replace my original windshield. Under $400 out the door and the tech has been doing it for just about three decades. He did a good job and I appreciate quality work so I tipped him $40. Still a deal in my opinion.

Basically exactly what it sounds like. They have state licensed shops inspect your vehicle to make sure it's not a Hazard to everyone else on the road.

coolant and radiator was replaced 6 months or so ago.

I am not 100 certain the thermostats is facing down. But did my timing belt about a year ago and put a new one in. I actually cut that jiggly thing off, recommend by my mechanic buddy. Although after changing it my temp went from 190 to 193. Are there oem thermos that open at higher and lower temps? Maybe I should run a lower one?

fan clutch was replaced and functioning with the heavier duty one that came with the towing packages.

I did have the AC on full blast, so soak through from the condenser could be a thing.

current configuration is tranny - radiator - top port of cooler - bottom port of cool to the radiator

all the cooler hoses are newish and no issue with radiator hoses.

this was happening on flattish highways which was my major concern. Made me start thinking it was possibly my torque converter taking a shit.

Put some new tail lights and 3rd brake light in. Man is that 3rd brake light a pain to change.

Fyi for those with double cabs. Energy suspension does make body mount bushings for the double cab.

Possibly. Technically my Check Engine Light would have been an automatic fail so I'm glad I'm not having to jump through those hoops

In most cases I actually agree with safety inspections there are some sketchy cars out there in need of maintenance

Those "safety" inspections and smog checks are just a money grab by the local municipalities/governments.

In most cases, I'm more worried about the people driving than I am about sketchy vehicles. People driving while texting and not paying attention are a much larger concern IMO.
