Diff drain and refill with Fram synthetic. Was going to do the fuel filter too but it’s too freakin’ hot. 88 degrees and 83% humidity. Air you can wear.

They also fall off pretty easily, just held on by two rubber washers around 2 of the LBJ bolts

Quick FYI, with (59 ftlbs) and without (37 ftlbs) the dust cover have slightly different bolts and torque specs, but doesn’t matter other than that

220k miles, funny part was is it was leaking on the outside of the head gasket not the inside.

Strange. I think my head gasket is okay the more I drive it. But plan on doing a compression test on it tomorrow. I’m currently at 108k mi

Tried all the above (except weld nut bc I’m not a welder).

Ended up drilling and tapping the original threads. Used a magnet to control shavings. Have a Heli coil as backup in case my tap job fails down the road. I can now put my valve cover back on.

Got the back bumper painted and flush mount leds mounted to help me see backing out at night with the boat.

sanded hard with 60 grit, 3 coats of self etching primer and 4 coats of black matte paint. Then topped it with a clear coat to protect.

contemplating color coding the grill to jade green or just black. Last bit of chrome left.

Going to have to open it again anyway. I put it together and didn't FIPG at all in order to confirm all was shifting correctly. Glad I did, it's not.

Now it could just be the shift lever itself, its an older shift lever which doesn't have the extra bend in it. The info I was given, "the lever is from a 95 and the same style lever was used on both auto and manual trans tcases. Or, perhaps I f-ed up when reassembling the shift rods and that damn pill/detent balls/springs. Not sure what's going on.

Below is what I've got. I've made sure to seat the lever on the correct side of the spring. I can reach N, output (--->) trans side spins, both driveshaft sides do not. There is nothing UP from N - cannot shift into L4. I can pull down from N and it immediately moves left to the H4 position. Both shaft flanges will rotate with the output shaft. Shifting up from that will put it into the H2 position. Both flanges will rotate with the output shaft but the front driveshaft rotates at a much slower rate. Interesting enough, I can hold the front driveshaft flange in place and can still rotate the driveshaft flange/trans side. Maybe that synchro ring is sticking a bit. Not sure.

Trying to track down another shift lever (with that bend). :pccoffee:

Again, this is a j-shift transfer case out of a 95 AT Tacoma (confirmed by VIN).

Did you get anywhere with the sending unit? I just installed a new fuel pump and it came with a sending unit that I didn't use.

I believe the sending unit can be tested with a multi meter
